Hello all,
I got accepted to Howard, but this semester has been miserable, and I’m afraid my GPA may drop a solid .2 points (Will still be above a 3) and have a W.
I know that Howard isn’t viewed as the most selective school, and most of these types of threads I see are about UCs and Ivys, so I was wondering if anyone had any idea how these schools would handle rescinding an acceptance?
I talked to four different people. Three told me “Oh, don’t worry about that, we base your admission off of what you send before we accept you”, and one told me “You could send an email to the admission, but i personally recommend against it”. I really don’t know what to make of it. I may be freaking out a bit, but if this doesn’t work out, I will likely not be attending any school in the fall (not because Howard is my last choice in fact it’s my top choice. I feel it’s my only choice to be happy).
Does anybody have any information on this? Is it possible that some schools just don’t rescind acceptances?
I would contact the school about it. They’re going to notice it anyway and it will look better for you if you are proactive about reaching out and updating them about it, especially if you have a good reason why your marks dropped.
In other words, you do not have your final grades yet - you’re just guessing.
So, to be clear, of the FOUR people you spoke to, not one of them recommended contacting admissions.
And you are instead going to accept the advice of an anonymous CC’er with no connection to Howard admissions whatsoever.
Do you really need me to tell you how stupid that sounds? Follow the advice you were given. Wait until you have your final grades. Forward them to Howard. And then, if you are still concerned, contact the admissions office and ask if the change in GPA is going to be an issue.
I would recommend contacting the school as well. Before I dropped my class, I called Howard to make sure it would not affect my admission. The representative over the phone said it would not affect my admission because a decision was made based on the information I sent beforehand. I also emailed the admissions department with the same question and I received the same response (I wanted a response in writing just so I could have proof of the conversation). I would recommend emailing admissions!
