Residence

Got new rez double as well. first choice.

hey marsh i got placed in rvc too...i think it was my 10th or 11th choice, it's sort of a let down but i think it will all work out. It seems like there are pros and cons to every residence.

crazychai... it depends.. from my understanding our lease doesnt start till the 23rd of august which means any day you move in before that, they will charge you 65$/night.. which is kind of a rip unless its absolutely necessary..

got new rez double.. first choice

i wanna move in early so that i can get a lot of other stuff down while everyone else is moving in. i guess i'll call mcgill to double check if i can do it.

New Rez double here, too (number one thousand one hundred ish). I'm not complaining, although I kinda thought MORE or some apt-type situation would have been cooler...

I agree about RVC- any rez experience is what you make of it, really :) I think it'll turn out to be pretty good, and if not, we can always transfer!

wow, you got new rez with a lottery number in the thousands? my friend was really disappointed he didn't get new rez with a number in the 600's, although he applied for single.

in New Rez: there are 522 double rooms as opposed to 95 singles (let's just say they go pretty fast, especially as scholarship winners get first pick and may choose that more often than not)

that works out to be about 1044 people who can get new double, which is pretty damn good considering there are only about 2000 of us going in and not everyone chooses New. So that basically means that at least the first thousand people can pretty much put their money on getting New if it was their first choice. Sorry..just thinking out loud.

oh did i say rooms? sorry i meant "spaces"- that's the term they coined on the residence page i got this info off of

ohh..ok that makes a whole lot more sense.

try to get there before your roommate if you get new rez...and get the window side of the room. it's better. trust me :-)

oh, and don't be afraid to readjust all ur new rez furniture. the layout when you first go in does NOT make sense at all. the beds are in the hotel layout and so close to each other that the wall person has barely any personal space at all. so be a good roommate and move the bed torwards the window.

does anyone know if we can find out who our roommate is and if so when?

They don't give you your roommate assignment until move-in day, which actually seems kind of annoying because you can't compare stuff you're bringing and all. However, I THINK that if there's a specific person you want to room with you, you can both call and request it and they'll try to put you together.

Yeah, I really would like to get a feel for my roommate before hand and also figure some things out with her, like getting cable tv and telephone line and everything. I know some or most people would prefer it, but is it really necessary for two phone lines per room, especially if both people have cel phones. Plus, if she seems to be over zealous about moving in I might want to get there well ahead of time, lol.

actually you can e-mail them for your roommates name... give a reason like "i need to coordinate who brings what..." and they'll give the name and e-mail address to you... it worked for me last year.

Do all rooms come with a mini-fridge? If they do, is it possible to bring our own and return the supplied one at the end of the year? I saw a really nice on at Best Buy that I'd love to bring...

Also, are microwaves, hot plates, etc. permitted? On the list that was recently linked to here on the McGill website it recommended hot plates, but in the "Life in Residence" booklet I just received in the mail says they are not allowed...

they're probably not allowed seeing as they're a potential fire hazard.

most rooms have mini fridges. all upper rez and new rez etc. more has communal, same as solin (in the kitchens).

new rez also have big fridges in the common rooms and microwaves. 7th and 12th floors have oven/stoves....but the cleaning staff aren't as diligent as the upper rez ones.

a lot of asians i knew had rice cookers... hell we even had a hot pot party in my new rez room...with a gas cooker too!

fire hazard stuff....really...not a big deal.
mcconnell's rules were
1) respect the people
2) respect the staff
3) respect the building
4) DON'T **** WITH THE FIRE EQUIPMENT!
(lol it's funny hearing the rez director guy saying that)

Hey Im from Michigan. I just got notified I am in a Douglas Doubel this year. Anyone know anything about the doubles there, all you hear about are the singles?? I'm also in BComm and plan to be on the crew team, anyone else??
