Residence

New Rez. 915, baby!
I'm pretty excited about that.

Aparently we can make roommate requests, eh?
So if you're in new rez and know someone say, on this site and you have an urge to know the person you're rooming with before you get to Mcgill, that's definately an option.

you found out your room already? They told me they were making roommate matches or whatever the weekend before we arrive, but they can't do that without making room assignemnts. Weird...

well, New Rez sent out an email questionnaire and one of the questions asks if there was someone you wanted to be with as a roommate. It's far from guaranteed, and the room number isn't set.

I think you might have been confused by my post and how I said "915".
I was just 915 on the lottery.

I've already decided on the room mate, with someone from the forums.... it feels better to know who ure going to live with than to rely on a little questionairre!!

yes, but it's still only "knowing" the person as opposed to "knowing knowing" the person. anyone see what i mean? i'm one to leave it up to providence. besides, i've got a friend in concordia who wants to move in together, so that may end up being that anyway

The thing is, as a friend of mine has pointed out, its much better to be matched up according to interests and likes/dislikes so that at least there's a chance you'll be compatible as opposed to being matched up with someone you just marginally know and met on the forums and may not have anything in common with or be good to vibe with.

i really recommend living in rez. in a huge university like mcgill its hard to make a good circle of friends when you live off campus first year.

Agreed, it's a large reason for the vast majority of students. I mean, rez isn't cheaper than off campus spaces, why would you live there otherwise? Proximity isn't that huge of a factor..

And living in the ghetto or some west of campus places is even closer to school than rez haha :-D

It's the price we pay for social connections~

But I mean, it is worth the price, considering you know very few people before you go...

rez was great for like..the first few months...and then it kinda... well, the food and the ..environment.. bugs you after that.

but to me it was worth the money. if only there was no stupid contract or else i would've move off campus by december. i moved rezes tho afterwards in january from mcconnell to new rez just for pure luxury/convenience sakes (and i had more friends down the hill anyways) even tho ppl in my rez were fine (okay the paper thin walls of upper rez sucked but not enough to make me move away).

if i had to do it all over again i would've just researched more about different rezes first..and put in my change-of-rez request like RIGHT after i was allowed to (beginning of sept? i forgot when ur allowed to) instead of later on (thinking i could adjust to it initially and blah).

Food and environment can get kind of bland, then, huh?
I can see how you can get bored of the food, but what about the environment? I'm kind of confused as to what that means.

upper rez and rvc cafs have super bland foods. like...remember to grab salt and use all the different condiments they have.

new rez food was fine but it's just the same stuff all the time....

environment = loud drunk ppl in the hallways or loud drunk ppl locked out of the building or loud stoned people laughing at somethign stupid.....and the loud trucks in the morning if you're facing bmh.... LOL

and roommates...if ur social...it shoudl be no problem no matter who they are.. i didn't get "matched" with a roommate cause i moved middle of the year and i still email him and etc now.. just talk. duh.

"yo we're outta toilet paper. how about i get it this time...and next time you get it?"

:-D

hehe. will do. rez it is. hey, if your roomate is cool with it, can you house a homeless person in your dorm room? j/k. just a friend whose lottery at another school just sucked and who is homeless and terrified in a new big city... or do they have time limits or whatever?
so-davidsebastian- i guess you had cash left over on your food card then...

naw i used up that cash by eating steak and salmon all the time during the last month or so hehe

and you can put friends up in your room when they visit (my roommate put up like 6 friends in our room lol)..but they can't live with you.. also, it's almost impossible to keep it up cause you have to sign them in for new rez and etc. you'll always have to accompany them. and the staff aren't so stupid that they won't notice a friend who's staying with you for two weeks or something..

haha- that's the way...
ah... merde. well. what if the person has friends in other mcgill rezes lol, can they rotate once things get iffy?
hey u kno how u can't change rez until sept. 15th or whatever right. can you move out of rez before?

have you signed your lease yet? i didn't sign mine until move in day because it got lost in the mail, but if you already have then you have contractual obligations. it's all laid out somewhere....and if not, email the rez office for this kinda info.. if you want to move out, before...don't bother moving in..the monetary penalty sucks

u guys got ur lease already?

yeah i got mine, the deadline is the end of august i think. But i think you can get it in by the 25 of August at the latest.

actually hmm..this is bad for me to tell you this

but if you're kinda iffy on whether u really want rez, i'd push off signing the lease till like move-in day so that u can go there early and check out if you really want it...and then you won't be bound with the money and blah
