I just got a 4 in APUSH and was wondering how bad this was. I'm honestly so ****ed because I'm really good at us history and I won the class award. This sucks. Is it worth retaking next year>? I'll be a junior next year only taking 2 AP classes. Thanks for the insight..

its not worth it

Depends on where you’re going. A 4 is a very respectable score regardless. If you’re going into math/engineering, like I am, then those colleges wont care about a 4 in history. If you’re going into history in college, then a 4 probably wont look as good as a 5.

After you come up with a list of schools you are applying to, check to see if any of them accept a 5 but not a 4 in that test for placement and/or credit that you may find useful (this may also be dependent on what major you do). If you are likely to attend a school where it makes a difference, then you may want to try for a 5. Otherwise, don’t bother.

(Yes, this is more of a senior year decision.)

If you have something to prove, then do it. Some people can’t live with a blemish that they know is fixable.

Is there a practical difference between a 4 and a 5? If there is, then retake. Even if there is no practical difference, did you feel that you should have gotten a 5 the first time? If pride means a lot to you, then go ahead. I suggest books like REA’s Crash Course and Direct Hits if you decide to retake it.

I want to be a doctor, so screw history. I’ll get credit for a 4 and that’s all that matters.

This would be the only good reason to retake a 4. Obviously a 4 isn’t as good as a 5, but it’s still way above average. I got a 4 on APUSH last year.

Scores already came out?

You can call college board and an automated service will list your scores.

Scores came out by phone for $8 per call. They’re coming in the mail in the next few weeks, depending on where you live.
