retake sat I and sat II to transfer

Hey. I'm a freshman currently at Syracuse University. It's not really working out for me at this point in time so I am considering transferring obviously not for this year but next year. Should I consider taking the sat I and sat II over? I didn't really study for the exam and just went along with what I got. It's a long story but here are my scores and my current gpa. I'm thinking of applying to schools such as Tufts, NYU, Penn, Brown, Columbia, etc.

Gpa: 3.79
Sat I: 1990
SAT II: IIC-700 History-580

Any input would be nice and appreciated

Definitely re-take both your SAT I and your SAT II -- the history one.

The average SAT for Penn, Tufts, & Columbia is ~2110, btw.

As a freshman transfer, your high school transcript still really matters. What was your rank and GPA then?

I'm a bit confused because I thought since I'm applying as a transfer by fall of my junior year, that my high school grades would be less focused on. My high school grades are just mediocre at best. It sounds bad but I was apathetic about life in general which included school but toward the end I got my life together, finding direction and what not. So if I'm applying for junior year transfer, I would still need to retake Sat I, Sat II, etc? Maybe I should have been more clear about this before. Thanks for all the help.

Applying for junior status at your new school will reduce the weight of your high school records (SATs included). Honestly, retaking the SAT IIs is a waste of time. Its designed to show whether or not you're truely learning high school material. By the time you apply you'll have a full high school record, plus a year of college, so the SAT II will prove nothing. Most schools only use them for placement too, since its almost impossible to require them.
As for SAT I, I wouldnt retake it. As long as you got a 1200+ combined between the Math and Verbal (or critical reading or whatever it is), you're fine.

PS- if you're willing to put in the effort, some schools have extended deadlines for this year's applications for Fall Transfer. I'm sure if you busted butt and complteted them by Thursday, some would still accept them. Look into it if you want to move now....

I disagree. Your low score may have an effect on your chances at Columbia, Brown, Penn, etc. If you have the time to retake, do, or better yet try the ACT and send only it in.

Does anybody else have any more light to shed on this? One person so far says to don't do it, while another person says to take the ACT. Should I just list my awards and ec's and see how my profile stacks up, then letting you guys decide?

eh. you can retake the SAT I and IIs if that would make you feel more confident about your application, but i wouldn't. i don't think it'd be worth the money unless your score improved by like 200-300 points. since test scores aren't as important for transfers as they are for freshmen, i'd focus on strengthening other areas of the application.

narrow down your school choices and speak with the admissions counselors at those schools - i don't know for sure, but i doubt that they would advise you to go through that process all over again.
