Hey guys I just got my second ACT scores back and I'm torn. I got a 33 twice in a row and my section scores are 35E 35M 36R 27S and 34E 34M 29R 35S. Should I try again? I'm currently a junior and won't be available for the June test date. Here are some of the schools I'm looking at:
Notre Dame
Northwestern
USC
Vanderbilt
BC
UMich
and hoping for merit aid at:
Villanova
Santa Clara
Maryland (in state)

By the way I have a 4.3 weighted GPA which is like a 3.98 unweighted or something like that.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great - even for other schools to look at.
Thanks!

Honestly, I would not retake again because 33 by itself is fine for those schools with that GPA and your superscored act is a 35. Several school super score so you should be proud of what you have. Don’t waste time retaking it, just focus on other aspects of your application i.e. extracurriculars/internships

First of all, it’s ridiculous how your reading and science fluctuate so much. That shouldn’t be happening if the tests are truly standardized.

34 is generally regarded as the cutoff for scores changing admission status for the most selective schools. With a 34+, if you get rejected, it’s not because of your score.

Your situation is tricky. A 35 super score is great, and you’ve plateaued on single sittings. I think you should focus on other things.

@kp2241 Can you clarify what exactly you mean about getting a 34? I just received my ACT scores today and I got a composite 34 and am wondering whether to retake the test. I’m aiming for the top LACs, Ivies, UChicago, etc.

A 33 is a good score.
You should only retake is you think you can prepare yourself for the reading section. Did you have a good strategy for reading when you went in? Do you know exactly why you scored worse on that section than you did the others?

If you can’t really answer those questions, you probably would be wasting your time with the retake.

But as I said, a 33. That is a competitive score for all of those schools and I congratulate you on that. Forget about the ACT, and just be done knowing you did your best and you got a great reward for it. Good luck
