Retaking an AP Exam

I'm really disappointed because I got a 2 on the AP World History exam, and I really thought I did better. If I decide to retake the exam next year and get a 4/5 will it cancel out the 2 or will colleges see both scores. I don't care about the money aspect of retaking it, but will colleges look down on me retaking it?

Colleges don’t really use AP scores for admissions, so retaking it would only be to your benefit. Generally, when scores are sent, all the scores are sent, but since the initial acceptance, it doesn’t matter anyway. Why do you want a higher score so badly? If it is for the credit and the fact that you really think you prepared well and it will be valuable for you in college, you can certainly try to retake it. If for the purposes of admission, I would say leave it as it is and focus on next year’s APS

Just trying to get that credit and what if I cancel the score then nobody will see it and all they see is the 5 :D

Once scored, there is no cancelling. You can certainly take the test again.

@skieurope so if i retake it will colleges see both scores or just the higher

Both if you send them, but again they DON’T use it for the purpose of admissions, only credit because not every school offers APs. They will count the higher if you use it for credit, but you have to assess if it is worth your time to study and retake a test you already took from the year prior

You choose which AP scores to send, so you can omit the lower score from being sent.

If you think you did better then you can ask for a rescore or do what the above poster(s) stated.

In a rescore do they rescore your essays too? @quadmaster

I don’t think I would rescore my exam though. I got consistent 4’s on my practice tests and thought I didn pretty well on my exam, but I doubt it was a computer error.

If you rescore, only MC is rescored.

Oh okay, well more than likely I’ll just study for the exam harder next year and retake it and then just send the score to my college. Thanks for the help guys!
