Retaking SAT/ACT ?

Hello, I will be applying as either a first semester sophmore or second semester sophmore at some upper-tier LACs (i.e. Hamilton/Bucknell) and will be either retaking the SAT or taking the ACT to give myself more of an edge.

My question is: Should I retake the SAT's (the new one's of couse) or should I take the ACT? which would be more effective?
My downfall was really the Math SAT score. I did no kind of prepping for the Math portion, since I heard that there was no real way to prep for it and doing so would be futile. Do SAT prep books help with the Math section?

Also, do you guys know where I can find SAT/ACT schedueling in the tri-state area? (New jersey, Pennsylvania, New York City regions for me)

Thank you.

From what I know, adcoms put more weight on SATs. Go to http://www.collegeboard.com/ and click on the Quick Link to 'SAT Dates.' The test is administered nationally. When you register, it will give you a list of test centers close to your home.

In response to edit: I'm pretty good at math, but not the sort of math on the SAT. It's basic algebra-type word problems and simple functions, and I'm a Calculus geek who forgot all that. The prep books did help me remember y=mx+b :p

SAT questions are a different breed. I highly suggest specific prep, but don't go overboard!

Well yes I have heard more about the SAT than the ACT so I suppose I will retake those. Hmm, so prep books with MATH SAT questions don't help? THat's so odd. I could see how it would be futile to study for verbal (as there are no set words to study for), but how do you really change math? Can the math offerered in these texts be that much different than what will be on the SAT, and even prior SAT's?

If you can why not take a prep course or something. I hear that they have great material that they give to their students.

prep-courses are retarded, don't take them. ESPECIALLY PR, i took it and it was so slow... a waste of time and money... you can just get the blue collegeboard book and just work through it yourself and do better.

after i paid my fees at PR which was close to $1000, they said "we can't help you with your test, only you can help yourself do better"
don't take the courses
