Good luck guys, can’t wait for all the RD admits to come join us ED admits. The Facebook page is getting a little lonely I was such a wreck at this point for ED. My advice is to find a TV show or something that’s really good, and just invest yourself in that so you don’t have to think about the decision. I was on Netflix so much in the days leaving up to my decision.

Just out of curiosity, how much does it help to not need financial aid?

Rice is need-blind, I think, so they don’t factor in financial need into their decisions.

@crazymonster: yeah, but I still don’t want to find out until then.

On the application, why did Rice ask for our parent’s hometowns?

Any ideas on the likelihood of getting into Rice given that I was deferred in ED? Or does that not change anything…?

Would being from Wisconsin be an advantage or a disadvantage?

@wishuponthemoon
I was wondering the same thing, because i was deferred too. I hope it raises our chance at least a little bit.

@FutureDocSuave Advantage. Rice likes people a little farther from home.

@Aerobug: where did you hear about the march 22 decision date?

^ I’m wondering that, too. Last year, decisions were released on the 23rd (a Friday). I’m guessing that’s why people are saying it’ll be the 22nd.

But unless someone called the admissions office and an official explicitly told him/her that decisions will be released on the 22nd, I wouldn’t trust that date. I’d just be getting my hopes up for what could potentially be a big disappointment.

How much of a disadvantage is being in-state?

@Juvenis
I’m not sure there is a way to exactly quantify it, but approximately 50% of the student’s that matriculate are from Texas. You could compare that with the percentage of applicants from texas. For example, if 75% of the applicant pool is comprised of Texans then it would be a disadvantage to be in-state. I think it really isn’t a disadvantage to you, but it is an advantage for someone else that is out-of-state.

I believe that someone on this thread did call admissions and did confirm the 22nd.

Do we know how many applicants are from Texas? I’m from California and hardly anyone here has heard of Rice.

The 22nd is on their website I believe, they didn’t mention a time however.

I have two things on my mind… university decisions, and my Gf haha… unfortunately they don’t go too well together as I am an international student…

Been rejected at 3 places already and only an acceptance from my safety… so I have no idea if the others expect me to not enroll with them and get accepted somewhere else… or if I am just not qualified enough for them (1st world problems hey?)

Good luck with the wait everyone…

^Just did a quick check of their site and couldn’t find any indication of the notification date. I could’ve missed it, though.

Has anybody been checking Esther recently? Mine now has a section for Financial Aid, though it didn’t before I’m pretty sure. Also, it says that my info is correct as of March 14th, which was last Thursday. My last log-in date was before then, so now I’m curious about that as well. (Hello, I am your average freaking out college applicant looking way too much into everything.)

@jkmmmm
I remember someone posting the link somewhere on the site as I don’t just accept rumours… but I can’t find it on their site either…

Guys, this one user toured the campus and an adcom confirmed that decisions will be released on March 22:

;) Let’s hope for the best. I stupidly forgot to request for an interview and now I’m worried that this will count against me… Will they regard my lack of interview request as a lack of interest? I sure hope not… :(

I think interviews are kinda like finding a dollar on the floor. If you find one, you’re like “ooh, a dollar! It’s my lucky day!” And then you move on. And if you don’t find one, you don’t think about it because there are plenty of other things that happen in a day and finding a dollar is not high on your priority list.

Basically I’m saying don’t worry about it. Interviews are probably just another feather in your cap, not a penalty mark against you.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ! Just a few more days :)

what sets rice apart from other universities like wustl and emory?
