Richmond Scholars Class of 2021

Can someone please send a link to where it says that all semifinalists have been notified? Congrats to all semifinalists!

@JacobsCreek- Found this on the homepage of Undergraduate Admission

Richmond Scholars Update
The Richmond Scholars semi-finalist selection process is complete; all semi-finalists have been notified, via e-mail, as of January 12, 2017. All first-year applicants to the University will be considered for Presidential Scholarships and other merit scholarships.

Oh my! I got an email from the president of the University asking me to write a letter telling them about my child. It was exhausting and surprising!

@luckymama64 - That’s something UR does. It’s the only one of the 10 my DD applied to that asked for it. I kind of liked getting to put my 2 cents in. Enjoy writing it!

@luckymama64 . Wow, ok, your the mom, so the school found your email & asked you to write them about her personality? Is that right? Can you give me more detail please! Lucky you! That’s awesome!

@phoenixmomof2 You seem unsurprised luckymama64 got this sort of email request. Did you get an email as well? While that’s clearly wonderful for your kids, is it bad for me that I didn’t get an email about my D? Do they only send them to kids they want to Admit? Should I panic? Yikes, thanks!

@cloudysmom I also got the email - pm me your email address and I will forward it to you

@cloudysmom - my DD is already a UR student. But I watch the forum to help answer any questions when I can. I believe this is standard practice for UR. However, I can’t tell you how they select who gets them. I assumed everyone got one.

@cloudysmom - also another thought… is your child an ed applicant? If so, that may be why you did not receive it. The letter is not even due to them until Feb 15th and the ed apps will be through review. Finally, the letter says it is completely optional and does not affect the student’s app negatively if you don’t submit it.

@crazym0m @phoenixmomof2 and others whose names can’t see on my ipad…I feel like I am going to cry. I haven’t even told my daughter. She applied to her dream school ED1 W& M and was denied. She loooves UR and I was so hoping to avoid another heartache. Yes, she is ED2 at UR so do those kids not get the email to their parents? Oh I just feel so defeated.

@crazym0m Thanks for the message & email, looks like it’s just RD, that, and your kindness, made me feel better. Athanks you & good luck to your son, impressed UR is that interested.

Hang in there @cloudysmom. It’s a very stressful process for kid and parents. Your D will be just fine and end up somewhere great for her.

Does anyone know any more about how finalists for Richmond Scholars will be notified? Will it be all at once?

I got one last year. I believe it helped my daughter become a Richmond Scholar so totally worth the effort.

@elena13: We were told by U Of R (tour in early January) that the finalists for the Richmond Scholars program should be notified mid February. I don’t know if they will all be notified at once, but I have heard that they DO notify semifinalists if not going on to the finalist round. Sounds like we will hear if it is good news or not!

@elena13 finalist notifications are done rolling (not all at once, but not quite in batches). This is, in part, because they wait to receive your mid year grades before realizing your finalist status, because if you are a finalist, you also receive your offer of admission (if you weren’t ED).

@guineagirl96 You have been such a great source of information about the Richmond Scholars program. Thank you for your posts! Can you tell how antsy we all are?!

Whoa – I just read this on UR Admissions page. I keep telling my husband this very thing: http://admissionblog.richmond.edu/?assetid=bc6adec9ac1c04196f71a6a9e52aa8fc

Thanks for all the helpful responses. This is such a stressful process and it’s nice to be able to get answers and support. Thanks for the article @luckymama64 - very interesting, but also intimidating.

@elena13, I know, huh? I try to be a parent who doesn’t think their child is “all that,” but that blog post really did tell me – my kid is not “all that!” But still, she is pretty damn good, and this really lowered any expectation we have!

@luckymama64 - Yes, that seems like a good attitude to have. It does seem that my expectations are very low at this point and I’ll just have to hope that something good works out. I’m trying to just focus on enjoying this time with my daughter, since I know things will be changing very soon!

Does anyone know if finalist notifications have gone out?
