Class ring?

So, we had our (rather boring) class ring promo assembly this morning. I've never really considered buying one before, so it came as a big surprise to find upon talking to my friends that almost all of them had already planned theirs out.

It seems like a waste of my parent's money...but I know they'd be willing to contribute (to a certain extent) if I asked, which I haven't. I've found a few people who agree with me, while others insist that I will regret NOT buying one for the rest of my life.

What do you think?

I honestly do think it's a waste of money. I'd rather spend that $300+ for college classes.

I didn't get one last year, and I don't regret it at all. :)

imma get one. to me, it sort of represents your high school and all your memories. its just one of those things thats nice to have.

Hold off and buy your college ring instead. The HS ring ends up in a drawer the minute you start college.

^^While I agree with the sentiment, I've seen an inordinant number of HS class rings since getting to college.

I'm planning on getting my Northwestern class ring when the time comes in 2 or so years, but I did not and do not regret not getting my HS class ring. Where you went to college is an accomplishment creditable to you. Where you went to high school is a product of where you happen to live (private schools not withstanding).

I guess it depends how much you enjoy your high school memories. I didn't get one, but I'm not much of a ring person either. Some people cherish theirs, others don't.

Biggest waste of money ever created. The day i am extremely happy that I graduated from high school is the day i'm homeless.

ROFL. Yeah I agree. HS is a joke anyway. 4 years with people you'll never see the rest of your life.

I MIGHT buy a college ring, but I don't know. I don't need some stupid ring to enjoy my memories.

SO TRUE ^^^^^^
I mean a class ring? What are you gonna do? Show off to all your friends that YOU ...OMG!!! graduated from high school...what?

one word ... yearbook

Well of course the class ring company's marketing tool will be to tell you to buy one or else you will regret it.

Class rings aren't a huge thing at my school; most people just go for the cap/gown package (our school has a company that does class rings and graduation packages together).

I personally think class rings are really expensive. And I already have four class t-shirts from each year of school (and a class sweatshirt and sweatpants), so I think that I already have enough class memorabilia.

But if your class doesn't do the whole class apparel thing, then you can buy one if you want.

lost mine and never took the time to find it. same with college, save your money put it towards pizza money for college

or you could just not go for the real stone and just get fake.
then it costs like 40 bucks and no one can tell the difference.

Or you can save 40 bucks for some pizza =]

Rings are fairly big at my school. Most juniors get them and wear them till they graduate (I've seen some visiting alumni with them as well.) It's one of the few pieces of jewelry I wear on a constant basis. And if I'm lucky enough to have the same company do the college rings then we can trade in our high school rings towards our college rings (though I'm attracted to the idea of having both.) I love mine.

I'd been on the fence with getting one too. Herff Jones came and did the whole promo thing about a month ago, but when I found out that I couldn't get the FIRST Robotics logo on mine (or I would have to wait way longer), I decided that it wouldn't be worth it just to get a class ring for the sake of getting one.

Now I realize that was an excellent decision. For me, the sentimental value does not compensate for the monetary value as my ring would have been over $300. I rarely wear rings anyway.

I'm definitely getting one. ^_^ It's not huge at my school, but most of the seniors get them and it's almost considered a "rite of passage". I'm excited to get mine.

Can someone tell me why they would get one aside from...everyone else does?

^because you want one to remember high school with.
