Dear a7856336 (the dad of a Cornell applicant),
I asked my parents about your questions b/c they just finished paying for my sister's undergraduate degree at Dartmouth and might be able to help you.

Cornell won't give your daughter a full-ride unless your family income falls at or below their minimum, which is something like $60K a year or so. The Ivies don't give ANY merit or athletic scholarships; everything is need-based financial aid only. While my sister was at Dartmouth, she got more aid while our older sister was in college at the same time. When that sister finished, the Dartmouth sister's aid shrank. If you have another child in college at the same time, that would help. If Cornell's financial aid offices are like those at Dartmouth, the people there are reasonable. During my sister's very first quarter at Dartmouth I was diagnosed with cancer and, our family finances took a huge hit because of my treatments in Houston (we don't live there) at MD Anderson. Dartmouth's financial aid people were very kind and allowed us some extra aid because our health-related expenses were through the roof. If you have legitimate financial emergencies, perhaps Cornell would be as flexible with you as Dartmouth was with us. Mom and Dad send you good luck, and said it's only painful for 4 years, and you can get used to eating beans and rice. ;)

a78: It seems like your daughter and I are in a similar boat, I was recently admitted to Geneseo as well but was deferred from Cornell Human Ecology. Though this may come as unwelcome news, HumEc IS about the fit, a lot. My stats seem to be similar to hers and I got deferred, so really, the demonstrated fit in her application will be what makes or breaks her application.
That said, GOOD LUCK and hopefully both your daughter and I will get in RD!

ahh, i'm curious about this too. i just got snail mail, and no other confirmation, so i'm actually sorta scared to find out that the letter was either a joke or sent to the wrong person lol. did anyone else just get the single letter?

a few people from my school have gotten in; it came in a thin letter-sized envelope.. just letting you all know. good luck everyone! let's keep our fingers crossed..

I've gotten an acceptance letter for AEM... I just didn't want to make anyone think he or she didn't get in because of a lack of a letter already. However, everyone seems pretty interested, lol.

That's why I didn't want to say anything...
But I think it helped me that I've attended a different branch of one of the business programs AEM hosts.
Have no fear!
