I think the last time I ran a timed mile it was around 12 minutes… however, that was about the fifth grade. Anyways, It’s probably more than 9:30. haha. I’m a pretty slow runner. I probably could have run it in less when I played field hockey… but not so much anymore. I just do cheerleading and we don’t really run much. I need to though.

CROSS COUNTRY, BABY!!! I’ve been on the cross country since middle school. I’m not the best but I really do love it. Next year I’ll be a senior and have to make it to state. My goal is to run 6:30 by the end of June.

I put a plus in the 7:30 category. Although I’ve really only achieved that, once or twice. Sometimes I get lazy during running. Or maybe its just that I have a lot of anxiety problems and I feel like I hate people watching me in cross country practices. Like, whenever I do the Race for the Cure, I’m with my friend and I am pretty much okay. But at XC meets/practices I can’t do it. Its so bad that at the starting line I literally feel like I’m going to throw up and pass out.

I’m going to work my ass off this summer. I will not have the upcoming freshman beating me. Coach already said I’ll be captain (I was captain this year, too) and on varsity…I ran some varsity this year but again with my anxiety I begged my coach to keep me on JV.

I love running. I need to get a job so I can afford to pay the fee for local 5k’s.

warhole is very right. I was overweight up until high school and joined cross country my junior year. I ended up on varsity my that year and this year, with my peak mile being about 5:10. Add a minute to that and it’s about 6:10 per mile for an 18:30 5k, around my best time. I know, not the best, but I still felt like a BAUS. Cross Country works wonders!

I ran a 6:19 my first season of track when I was a freshman, but I had anemia my sophomore year so I couldn’t improve.

So…could any of you all-star runners give me some tips on how to improve my leg (and perhaps arm) strength? My mile time worsened over the school year so I need some tips for improvement :/

@Gabyaulet
I know right…
12 mins all the way :D

LOL. You guys do realize the fastest time on record in running the mile is 4:04. Some of you may want to rethink your stats. . .

^not true. 5 high schoolers in history have gone sub 4, and the world record is 3:43. Sub 6 is not the great, better than most but in cross country many kids can go sub 5
