I was considering rushing a sorority this year as a sophomore. However, I am a bit concerned, as my freshman year GPA wasn’t super great. Should I wait and rush during the winter, so I can get my GPA back up? Is it more difficult to get a bid during winter rush? I don’t care about what tier the sorority is, I’d just like to join Greek life.
Their minimum GPA is not that hard to meet. It’s usually between 2.5 and 3.0.
Would it benefit for me to wait to rush during winter to have a higher GPA, or would that decrease my chances? Also, I’m planning on staying an extra year, so would that help getting a bid?
Is there a winter rush for sororities? As a parent of a sorority student, I am not sure I have heard of that. Last year there was one special case, but I think it was atypical.
Winter rush is usually only available for houses that did not meet quota during fall rush. These tend to be the less “popular” houses, and it is possible that there are no houses that participate in winter rush. If Panhel is adding a new sorority (or rebuilding an existing house that is struggling), there may be a supplemental rush right after fall rush or a recruitment in winter term.
Your best bet is to try fall rush. You don’t have to join after all.
Do fall rush. Most of the time winter rush is only if you have connections to sororities already.
