Russian speaking/former USSR students - where are you accepted/going?

iuleb – be careful about Grinnell – it recently became a popular choice through marketing/ huge growth in college applications (in a booming economy everything will rise to a higher level b/c of the trickle down effect , but in years of bad economy things fall into its usual places – most people in the NorthEast dont know much about Grinell) Of course when FA matters, take the most generous option.
Helen-mes – Holyoke is all women – without the opportunities to mix. Washington Lee is great academically, but the culture is very different from what you are used to – 75% of students are in sororities/fraternities and girls have been known to transfer if they didnt get into the one of their choice. URichmond is beautiful!!!The best looking campus/dorms out of any colleges Ive seen, except in California. They also like their internationals

good luck to all

mhmm,

Thanks for your input, but I don’t think I understood you correctly. Are you warning me about Grinnell because it’s not very…er…well-known?

you have it as a “top choice” over some schools that 1) have a much better reputation, 2)are better than it academically. I understand that its extremely hard to gage a college being overseas, relying on word of mouth, so I thought I would add another opinion

I’m denied at Amherst, but waitlisted at Williams instead… Now I am on 3 waitlists for good schools, and don’t even know if its worth waiting… (WashU, Williams, Pomona).
I have a similar situation - no one has heard of Moldova either! :)

Thank you!
The only thing that bothers me about Richmond (although I liked it a lot when visited it) that it’s not on all the “best colleges” list, and that people don’t know about it. Yesterday i picked up one of the “best colleges” book in Borders, and W&L, MHC were there - but not Richmond.
Now I feel that I should go up to see MHC myself. I love their riding program, but single-sex is a bit of nuisance for me.
I also was just accepted to Hamilton with a full ride… Now I have to travel during spiring break :)

Ohh nice… I would stay on waitlist, I mean, it never hurts, does it? Ironically, I got waitlisted to both Amherst and Williams… Haha, well, at least rejected to Middlebury. If I were waitlisted there too, I would be laughing really hard. It’s nice to know that we get all of our decisions in about 2-3 days!! :))

Yeah, but waitlisting only means more uncertainty limbo… And I can not imagine enrolling in one of my schools (where they treated me extremely nice and awarded a prestigious scholarhip) and then withdrawing!

Oh, I think all of the admission officers had a good laugh looking at my financial aid application.

If you’re planning on going to graduate school, don’t worry about the reputation of a college as test scores + GPA are all they really take into consideration.

I thought that the name of a college really matters in grad school. Thanks for letting me know overwise!

I think as long as it’s not a cc of Nowheresville we’re ok:)

Now I am dreading this Tuesday. All the Ivies + Tufts supposed to let us know. Also, I have a calculus test, which only makes the day worse :)

Well I think 4.0 GPA from Harvard will look much more respectable that 4.0 from Slippery Rock State University… Obviously the coursework in Harvard is much more demanding, so…

Good luck helen, you will do fine :)

lol I wonder why ‘Slippery rock’. Not very euphonious. But better than smth like ‘Kalamazoo’:)

That’s what they keep telling me! Thanks :)

Yeah, I thought Kalamazoo was a joke at first :)

Ohgodohgodohgodohgod!!! Just got a call from fedex!!! Carleton is supposed to send decisions by fedex!!! I really don’t know why I’m so excited - this is supposed to be a rejection, in the finest traditions of top lacs:D

Why am I so unstable? That was from Bryn Mawr…uh…

Don’t be pessimistic  Denials are usually send regular mail!

I find out about Wellesley soon… and Macalester.

Yeah, apparently a number of Liberal Arts colleges send stuff via fed ex… I got into vanderbilt (email), but nothing in mail, on the other hand got into Colgate and received a fedex mail from them yesterday, with a lot of colgate stuff, personal feedback on my essay and teacher recs (handwritten, yay!), and 100% need met financial aid award letter… That was pretty nice :)

Iúileb did you watch the Russia-Azerbaijan football/soccer game? I thought it was pretty neat :)
