Safety???

I just checked the status of my SDSU application and here's what I found:

Thank you for applying to San Diego State University. After carefully reviewing your application, we are unable to offer you admission for the fall 2005 semester. Admission decisions are very difficult given the very strong applicant pool. Each year, SDSU receives many more applications than can be accommodated based on the number of admission spaces available for the fall semester.

We received over 49,000 applications for approximately 4,150 freshman and 4,250 transfer openings in our fall 2005 class. The average grade point average for admitted transfer students was 3.16. All decisions were based on the information you reported on your CSU application and the SDSU Supplemental Application and were made with great care. Reasons for not meeting SDSU criteria may include:

Not having the minimum grade point average required for your major
Not completing the Transfer Supplemental Application
Not having specific courses required for your major
Not having the minimum grade point average if you are located outside of SDSU's service area
Not submitting a separate application to the nursing program (if your major is nursing)
Not completing or successfully passing a mandatory audition (if your major is music or dance)

It looks to me that they really emphasize on GPAs and Required courses, I'm surprised because I don't fall under any of the statements listed above.
Trasfer student - Santa Ana College
GPA- 3.82
Will have IGETCI done by this semester
64 Units (60 is the min.)
Supplemental Application-completed
All required Courses for my major-completed
-Major- Geography, not many courses required, but I completed all with As

I must admit that I'm really disappointed because I also applied to Cal, UCLA, UCSB and CSULB. Somehow I thought of CSULB as my safety (along with SDSU). I was feeling good about my chances on Cal and UCLA since my major is not that competitive, but I guess I was wrong.
Oh well.....all I can do now is wait

wow, that's very strange...

That's actually pretty outrageous. I don't blame you for being disheartened, but I really think that its just a fluke. You're stats are impressive and ive definitely seen people with less get into both UCLA and Cal, especially with a major that isnt mpacted. Your chances for both are good and I wouldn't give up hope just yet. Good luck :)

You know whats worse? I just called the # to check on my CSULB app. status and it turns out that they haven't received "additional information needed" (they were asking for my trascripts and proof of my residency) that I sent about three weeks ago.
Is that Luck or what?

Blah. well hopefully it wont be an issue because you'll get in at LA or Cal and yeah. Can laugh at the silly Cal States or something for being completely random and dumb (not that the UCs arent random...cuz..heh. wont go there).

Thats ok though, I emailed USC about barcodes for my application in the beginning of January, and I just today got a response. Over a month after I submitted the application and thus making my barcode request useless. And that was a private school, not some crazily bureaucratic public. Im not surprised that Long Beach is lagging.

I was going to apply to some Cal States as safeties, and then decided to just go with some lower UCs. Slightly worried now, as SB pushes back its notice date and UCLA's (my #1) May 1st date looms too far in the future for my sad frazzled nerves. This whole pursuing higher education thing isn't so fun sometimes. Like now.

I'm sorry for your rejection, but I wouldn't put too much stock into it as far as your chances for your other selections.

Transfering from a CCC within San Diego County, more specificially transfering from a CCC located in the SDSU service area within San Diego County is the key to admission. My community college is in the Cal State San Marcos service area and qualified applicants from my school, with stats not unlike your self, are usually not offered admission to SDSU but rather granted automatic admission to CSUSM even though they may not not even applied to the school! Its mainly a location factor based upon all the info I have gathered from the SDSU and CSUSM admissions staff. To many people, to few spots, the locals get first dibs, and agian, virtually all the majors are impacted.

This reason alone has forced me to go exclusivily UC as non of the other CSU's appeal to me, though I would have considered SDSU a top choice if it were more practical to get in even for native San Diegians in the north county.

Mtthwszb:it makes sense what you say about locals having a bit of an advantange
yea allie, it sucks that SB pushed back untlil the 22nd, UCLA is also my #1 choice, we'll see what happens. whats your major?

Communication Studies. Which is lovely and so typical of me to pick the major that doesnt look at TAP and has the lowest acceptance rate (within letters and science). But im not scared or bitter at all. And yeah, Im mad at Santa Barbara. Thats my #4 of 4 and Id really like to know if I'll at least get in somewhere. Im tiring of this wait very quickly.
