SAIC - Portfolio Accepted - help me better understand

To give some preface : I am 25 and a potential undergrad, so I am a bit rusty on understanding all the portfolio issues I dealt with my first time around applying to schools (2002)

I attended a portfolio review / interview this thursday. My portfolio was accepted on the spot, the councelor spoke of me not taking any intro cources (since I have been a working filmmaker, I do have a solid technical foundation) and then gave me till June 1 (transfer student deadline, even though I havent attented college) to submit for my merit scholarship.

All this while my girlfriend is applying to SAIC (or applied) for a dual masters degree program. Talk about a stressful week!

So my question...portfolio acceptance? Is that an un-official "ok, your in"...because thats what it felt like to me, with all the extremely positive language being used in the interview.

I don't want to get overly excited if this isn't the truth. I browsed this website and read it was a very good sign, but like I said earlier. I am very rusty on these things

Any help would be appreciated. Hope everyone else has the same luck I did in their apps!

Thanks

There is another thread that deals with this question in detail

Basically what portfolio approval means is that you will be automatically accepted once you apply regardless of whether you include a portfolio with your application or not. However, if you would like to be considered for merit awards etc you should still submit portfolio as part of your application by the required deadline.

Wow. Thats what I was hoping to hear

I think I knew that in my head, but I needed to confirm it. I am a happy camper!

Thanks for the response!

My daughter’s was accepted by them too, but I would say you still need to meet the other requirements for admission, minimum GPA, and that sort of thing, but the portfolio is often the biggest hurdle.
