@cocoonutty and @SDSchools: As @Banker1 stated and I have also stated that once the Freshman orientation sessions begin, more classes will be added to accommodate the in-coming Freshman. Picking earlier vs later will not make too much of a difference since many of the required Freshman GE’s will available for all students that need them just not always our preferred time or professor. Pick the date that works best for you.
Anyone have the link for August dates? Also during orientation, do you just sign up for one semester only or is it both semesters? Any reason why there are two consecutive dates for orientation?
@texcalmom I meant the August Orientation dates
@SmartGurl17: You sign up for classes at Freshman Orientation for Fall Semester only. Sign ups for Spring Semester are usually during Winter break in January.
@gumbymom Oh ok! It shouldn’t be a hassle to get 4 classes then.
@SmartGurl17: No it should not be a problem and since SDSU’s is on semester, 4-5 courses a semester or around 15-17 units are the norm. If you are coming in with AP credit, taking a lighter load 1st semester can help you acclimate to college a bit easier.
I am wanting to register for an online economics course at my local community college for over the summer. Who should I email to confirm that it will not influence admissions?
Any recommendations for decent hotels close to campus, or do you think it’s best to stay somewhere close to a trolley stop
@texcalmom: We always stay at either the Sheraton Mission Valley or the Doubletree Hilton Mission Valley near the trolley stops. We will be staying at the Doubletree this weekend for my son’s graduation and we plan to take the Trolley in so no hassles with traffic or parking.
Congratulations to you and your son @Gumbymom
@Banker1: Thank you. Looking forward to having both son’s off the parent payroll soon.
Congrats @Gumbymom how exciting! Im sure it is nice to have a little free cash to spend instead of tuition!
@Bean981: My son is still job hunting and being a bit particular with location. He wants to stay in the San Diego area so focusing on jobs there at the moment, but he knows he will have to make a decision soon since Mom and Dad are not paying the rent of SD unless you has a good job lined up.
@texcalmom Days Inn at San Diego sea world
Location is a cheaper alternative.
Boy major typo: unless he has a good job lined up. That’s what I get for using my phone and not wearing my glasses.
@texcalmom: There are many hotel options around San Diego but during the summer months, prices are at a premium.
What is he majoring in @Gumbymom ? I may have contacts here you never know.
@Bean981: He is majoring in Computer Science and wanting to get into Cybersecurity. He has an interview tomorrow in Carlsbad which looks promising. I think he is focusing too much on Cybersecurity when he should be applying to all types of CS jobs to get his foot in the door. He has been interning downtown SD for the Department of Justice but their Cybersecurity division is located in Sacramento. Not willing to relocate but his older brother would jump at the chance to go back to Sacramento and work. I am really surprised how inflexible he is in regards to location. I have a contact in Fort Collins Colorado whom would love for him to interview but no go.
In general, do you pay per unit taken or pay for 16 credits even if you take less than that?
@SmartGurl17: You pay tuition during the Fall/Spring semesters based on 0-6 units or over 6 units (only 2 options). In the summer sessions, you pay by # of units, so the more units, the higher the tuition.
