San Jacinto Residence Hall- UT Austin

I'm living in San Jac this year, so I thought I'd share a little more info that I haven't seen posted anywhere else:
First of all, this is by FAR the best on-campus dorm. Because of that, it's expensive and competitive, but definitely worth both. I submitted my $50 downpayment in November. If you want to put preference to roommate over dorm (as I did), the roommate who first submitted the downpayment (me) is who the decision goes by. It is first come first serve. PUT YOURSELF ON THE WAITLIST IF YOU DON'T GET IN AT FIRST. I originally was placed in Moore-Hill, but I placed myself on the waitlist for San Jac and I got transferred two days later. My friends who applied earlier than I did who didn't put themselves on the waitlist never got in.

Some features that San Jac has:
- a kitchen
- a big TV room
- A pool/ping pong room
- a laundry room
- a grand piano/study room
- a computer lab
- you can rent movies
- you can rent board games
- it's co-ed (the right side of my floor was mostly girls and the left side was mostly guys, but it seems pretty random)
- it's very close to center campus and adjacent to the football stadium-- very convenient
- Cypress Bend- cafe inside San Jac, pretty healthy but also pretty expensive
- huge dorm room size, very modern and pretty
- nice view
- always has meet n greets and other activities going on
- has specific San Jac clubs to help you meet other people with your same interests
- a private bathroom that just you and your roommate share
- a microfridge
- shelving space right above the microfridge for food
- a desk and a large set of drawers
- loftable beds (I highly suggest putting your bed on the highest notch without actually lofting it. You'll have plenty of storage space for your drawers and such, but you also won't have to climb up a ladder every time you want to go to bed)
- tip: bring lots of wall decorations-- there's tons of wall space

If you can't get into San Jac, I'd highly recommend Jester next. It seems like everyone I meet lives in Jester. The location is so helpful and it always has something going on. After that, I'd say Moore-Hill is the next best dorm. They're a very tight knit community and seem to have a lot of fun, but the dorms seem pretty small. Whitis Court and Duren are both beautiful, but they're pretty inconvenient in terms of class distance. However, I go to the drag (Guadalupe) almost every day for food/clothes/CVS which is about a half-mile walk from San Jac, and both Whitis Court and Duren are right next to it.

Basically, when I tell people what dorm I'm in, I always get the same reaction: "Lucky!! That's the dorm I wanted!" It's a great dorm and I would definitely put it as your first choice :) If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
