I recently applied to the Santa Monica Scholars program and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how selective it is?

You’re in luck! I actually attended SMC while taking part in the Scholars program and I would say that they don’t really turn away people as long as you have all the requirements and fill out the application/essay. Nothing to worry about.

Are there people who get in just for the priority enrollment and not care about the exit certification? I’m planning on applying for TAG this fall (and apparently people who are applying this November ‘aren’t good candidates’) and really only want the enrollment priority.

UCorBust5 were the tap classes at Smc very hard compared to normal courses?

@Dline7024 If you mean Scholar’s classes by TAP classes, they can be a bit harder than normal classes as the professors expect more but it isn’t THAT much more difficult for most professors. A lot of professors differentiate their scholars and non-scholars class just by giving the scholars class one more paper, or one more essay, etc.

smltk1,

Absolutely. I was in Scholars Program only for the priority enrollment, and the awesome Scholar Program’s counselors.

Exactly what yeleven11 said. Couldn’t have put it better myself. Join! They advertise that 9/10 of certified Scholars are accepted into UCLA with either their first or alternative majors. I like the odds.

As long as you meet their requirements(3.0 gpa and letter of recommendation), you will be accepted.

I’m a member of their program!
