SAT Essay

What would this essay get in a test?

Can people have too much enthusiasm?

Enthusiasm is extremely important, especially when trying to accomplish something. When enthusiastic about a project, people tend to dedicate more time and effort into making it better. However, enthusiasm does have some downsides.

Being enthusiastic about the wrong thing for all the wrong reasons is definitely bad. Drug users are often extremely enthusiastic about taking regular doses, something that is obviously wrong. Even being enthusiastic about something good, like charity, but for the wrong reasons can be harmful on the long run.

Enthusiasm for the wrong reasons can mean that we refuse to consider any other methods that may be superior. When enthusiastic for the tools we use to complete an objective, one often fails to see that the objective could be easier reached through a different means.

There is always a motivation to enthusiasm. As long as that motivation is right, then there is no such thing as over-enthusiasm. If the motivation is contrary to the goals, however, then any enthusiasm is over-enthusiasm.

Hi, your essay is ok I think I’ll give it an 6/12.

Here are some tips for better scores:

  1. make your essay longer
  2. in your intro summarize your examples in a clear thesis statement
  3. in the conclusion, restate your examples
  4. make the bulk of your essay about your examples. In this essay, you were just repeating your position about enthusiasm but you didn’t support your position with clear and strong examples.
  5. have at least 2 examples

Basically my main comment is that SAT essay require you to 1) take position on topic 2) provide at least 2 examples 3) explain how these examples relate to the topic
