SAT II Math IC/IIC

Hi everyone,

I've spent the last four days studying, nonstop, for the SAT II Math (haven't decided which one) test. After little (actually no) avail, I have come to the conclusion that I suck at math. (Ironic because I have a solid "B" in Pre-calc right now and was recommended to take AP Calc BC next year.) I can memorize the formulas with a snap of a finger, but when it comes down to solving the problems in the practice tests, I am stumpped. I felt as though I had a bucket full of formulas waiting to be applied, but I did not know how, where, or when to use them.

So, I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary for me to take the SAT II Math test for college admissions. I would so much rather score 800 on the ones I can memorize and regurgitate facts than score a 200 (just for putting my name) on a test where I would be stuck on number one for the entire hour.

I know that it depends on what the school is looking for, but if they allow you to choose which ever 2 (or 3) subject tests you want, does math have to be included? Every time I read posts from other bright students, math IC or IIC is usually there. If I decide not to take the Math test, I will take Biology, US History, and either German or Literature. Any ideas on how difficult German and Literature are, by the way?

Thanks for all the help and time!

Nobody says you have to take math. It's just that for a lot of students, the math test is rather easy. You won't be treated unfairly because you take others.

I hear lit is pretty difficult, just an FYI though. However, I'm not really sure. You'll have to ask somebody who's actually taken it.

I found Lit to be pretty difficult; then again, I went into the test without having done any practice tests (bad idea) and I'm not a huge fan of poetry (and the Lit test has a lot of poetry, or at least the Dec 2007 one did)
