Hi there,

I've taken both the SAT and ACT in my junior year. I was expecting to score higher, but I took both of the tests without any preparation just to kind of see where I would place. I got a 26 on my ACT, and a 1630 or a 1650 on my SAT.

My question is, should I retake both of these or do you think there is a chance that I could score higher on one or the other? If you think I should retake both of these, then which one should I pay to take a prep class on? It's too expensive to take a prep class for both.

Additionally, I'm going to major in Athletic Training, which is an allied health major. It'll be applying to University of Texas at Austin, University of Alabama, Oklahoma State University, and Texas State University. I included this information just in case it aids you in giving a better response.

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

There have been a couple studies done and men tend to do better on the ACT, but i would still retake both. The strategies that you learn in either prep class will help you with the other also. they both just test your general knowledge. and i would suggest just buying books for both of them rather then taking classes. In the classes they basically just read out of a book thats similar to the one you could buy for $30.

Thanks for your help. I’m going to retake both of them, but I didn’t know whether or not there would be similarities in the prep classes for either test. What books would you recommend purchasing, just the basic ones that I can purchase from Kaplan or Princeton review, etc?

The school district has a company come in a few Saturdays during the fall, so I’ll purchase a few of the books and then take that day-course to try to tie up the odds and ends and hope for a better outcome on my next test date. Once again, thank you for your assistance.

Personally I like the Barron’s book line. They have one for act and one fr sat, but it’s whatever works for you. Best of luck.

Yes, retake, but you should probably not study/practice the ACT and SAT at the same time… i tried… waste of time

I’m taking them like approximately a month a part from one another, not quite… but almost. So, I’ll study for the SAT first and then study for the ACT between the SAT test date and the time of my ACT.

Thanks for your help.
