SAT~~ Retake?

I don't know if I should retake my sat.
On one hand, I am intensely happy with my 2300(1600 CR+M), but on the other, I got a 700 in W, widely regarded as the easiest test to study for (11E). I think I could improve on this score for my superscore easily, and maybe even get the elusive 2400. So, given I only took it once, should I retake it to go for the super high score?

Bump 10 char

Please help me!!!

I’m assuming you’re a junior.

It depends. Have you tried the ACT? Have you taken a good amount of SAT II’s? Would studying for another SAT I interfere with sports/clubs/internships/etc., will you have time to study for AP Exams?

You’ve already got a fantastic SAT score that would impress most colleges, but you need to have a well rounded application. If you know you can do better and you have the time, go for it. Just keep in mind that you already have a great score.

Don’t bother retaking. It won’t help. Spend your time on something that you have a passion for. Then let it show in your application.

Try taking the ACT as yankeefantastic suggested; there’s an optional essay portion, as well as the regular writing section. Study for that.

Writing a well thought-out essay for admissions is a good plan, too.

But remember, a 2300 won’t hurt you in any way. You’re in quite the elusive group, yourself.

If I would take it again it would be October next year to avoid interfering with school work and activities. I really only studied roughly an hour a week for maybe 2 months (2 sections a week) with 4 practice tests, so even then studying was minimally invasive.

In terms of the ACT, I just took a practice test without prep and got a 33, which means that maybe I should take it? If I study maybe I could get a 35/36. AP’s are seriously worrying me though, as our teachers in some subjects are not the best at preparing high scores.

Thanks for the input, everyone at my school (relatively high achieving public) all encourage a retake however, because they are big into the “superscore” and taking it ~3 times, but in essence, I don’t really know if it’s worth it.

10 char bump

Do not take the ACT. You did very well on the SAT, you just need to review your grammar and retake the SAT.

I’d re-take but be prepared to cancel. Losing points in CR or M wouldn’t be optimal, but a 750 in W would put you in the very highest category. Your score is terrific already (and W is the lowest priority of the three–some schools don’t even include it in their criteria), so there should be no pressure to re-take if you aren’t feeling it.

Is there any way (outside of the blue book), that I can study for the grammar portion? I feel strong on the “gimme” questions, but the lawyer one (everybody but me/I) and the Bora Bora one on the March 10 SAT stumped me. I assume I got maybe 3/4 wrong for a -4/-5 Raw Score. I did well enough on the essay section (11), but our school doesn’t really cover “SAT-level” grammar assuming we learned it in Elementary/middle school, which I can definitively say we never really did. Also, should I bother with the ACT, as I signed up for April 14th pre-SAT score date, and I really haven’t prepared yet except for one practice test?

And also I have 3 SAT II’s. 800 Chem. 800 Math IIC. 740 Bio-E (Frosh year). I may take USH in June because maybe a humanities 760+(in APUSH) would be a better third test than the 740 in Bio-E.

I got a 2250 with a 1600/1600… so i my humble opinion we should both just go ahead and take the ACT and then bolster the rest of your application. I don’t know why the writing is so different :/

GiveMeReason; that’s pretty cool. Most people I know with two 800’s got them in Math and Writing, and they all say CR is the hardest. CR was never a guaranteed 800, but I think just reading a lot of books at a high level made it not exceptionally difficult to score 750+. Maybe we should just apply to Cornell or Georgetown with our perfect scores XD. I never got why everyone says writing is “so easy”, since it’s the thing you are never taught (at least in my case).

And just food for thought. Is my 2300 Breakdown better than say a 2310 with 800M 750 CR and 760 W?

Your current 2300 > that supposed 2310. Make sure your ECs and essays are strong and you’re as good as any other (assumed you are) unhooked applicant to elite colleges.

“And just food for thought. Is my 2300 Breakdown better than say a 2310 with 800M 750 CR and 760 W?”

At some schools (G’town, for one), yes. In general, though, no.

Bump? 10chars. Any more opinions. My guidance counselor doesn’t have a preference.

Bump 10char?

I feel like the writing section is least indicative of your skills, and a 700 isn’t really much different from an 800 as it would be in Math and CR. As someone mentioned above, this 2300 is better than the proposed 2310 without a doubt.

The fact that your writing score is >= 700 and not, say, 690, makes me think that you should not retake. Funny how those 10 points break the psychological barrier.

“Funny how those 10 points break the psychological barrier.”

They don’t, though, to ad comms I’ve heard from. There’s no “magic number,” but the closest thing out there is 750/750/750, so there are still some schools for which a sub-750 W score will be a bit of a detriment.
