Hi! I am currently trying to decide which science SAT subject test I should take, and I have quite a dilemma. I took bio freshman year. Sophomore year I took honors Chem 1, and this year I am in AP Physics 1. I would normally just take the physics SAT, but that test goes over all of the information included in AP Physics 1 AND AP physics 2. So if I were to take that, I would only know half of the information on the test. But, it’s been a couple years since bio or chem, so I’m not sure what I should do.
Buy/borrow a prep book for bio and/or chem (whichever is better for you). As you said, you will be missing half the topics in physics, so don’t even waste your time.
For physics, I would say that it depends on your knowledge. I mean, I only found that I had to revise Magnetism and wave optics for the SAT, even though I never went for classes on the same.
Do you have any knowledge on Electricity (basic things like circuits and resistance), Magnetism (just basic knowledge on Hand Laws), and physical optics? If so, then it isn’t that hard to learn more, enough for the test.
@SeaofFrost
By the time I’m done with AP Physics 1, I will have learned electrostatics, and DC circuits (resistors only), but no magnetism or physical optics.
You are going to have to study quite a bit any way you go with this, since it doesn’t look like you had AP Chem or AP Bio. I’d pick whichever one you like the best and study for it. You can likely get your high school teachers to help you if you have something you don’t understand, too.
which you don’t need for the SAT Subject Test.
I’m taking regular year long Chemistry. We will have covered most of the topics on the test, such as stoichometry, atomic structure, etc. I am getting the Barron’s 12th edition for the SAT Chemistry and staying after with my teacher, but will that be enough? I’d like to score in the mid 700’s if possible. Any suggestions?
