Scantron says "88%", gradebook "38%". What would you do?

Hi,

So, this summer I took a rather difficult Finance course. First exam I did OK, second I (thought) I got 88%. Final exam a 68%.

I ended up getting a "D" in the class and thought I'd get at least a "C" because I got an 88% on the second exam.

I was wrong... despite my professor writing a clear "88%", the scantron report says "38". The scantron has no markings to let you know any wrong questions or anything like that, so there was no way for me to know that her grade would be wrong.

What would you do in this situation? Is there anything that can be done since she led me to believe I had an 88% on it? Thanks!

Talk to the professor, there’s a chance they recorded the grade incorrectly. If it was just a copy error (or a math error), it should be pretty easy to get the grade fixed.

I would email the professor today, and I would describe the situation, and my confusion, as fully as possible, but without extraneous detail. I would tell the professor that I planned to follow up on Monday.

On Monday, I would go to the professor’s office for a face-to-face meeting if that were possible, or call the professor (or the Department office) if it were not.
