Schedule Advice

Hey!
I am an international student so I really don't have much info about schedules and grade distributions etc so I need your advice. I am a pre-business student for fall 2012.
The new requirements for Kelley are
Complete one course on the IU Bloomington campus from each of the following areas:
Business Analysis (BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, BUS-L 201, ECON-E 201, ECON-E 202, BUS-K 201, or BUS-X 201)
Mathematics (MATH-M 118, MATH-M 119 or ECON-E 370)
Communication (BUS-X 104, BUS-X 204 or ENG-W 131)
So which classes should I take to so that it's easier for me to maintain the B average??
Can someone please recommend a schedule for me which will maximise my chances to get into Kelley??
P.S I am exempted from the W131 class because of my SAT score. So which english class should I take in place of that?
Thank You

Well first off, it’s not a B average. You need at least a B in every course. You shouldn’t take an English class in place of W-131. You should definitely take X-104 for the communication requirement. If you have already taken a calculus course, take M-119. Then take K-201 for business analysis.

Actually what I meant was that I have a 680 CR and 670 writing score on the SAT. So I am exempt from W131
Does that mean I have to take another english class in place of W131??

You don’t have to take an English class in place of W-131. Also, I don’t know if the SAT exemption from W-131 meets the new communication requirement for Kelley admissions. Either way though, you should probably take x-104 unless you struggle a lot with English.

lol no I don’t really have much of a problem with english. I am actually more worried about math. I am pretty okay with calculus so I am gonna take M119 to meet the Kelley requirements. I am probably gonna hold off on Finite until I get admitted.
Any idea how hard Bus-L 201 is?

I haven’t taken L-201, but I believe it involves a lot of reading and memorizing. It is also a class that has a big discrepancy between how teachers grade. [Grade Distribution Database: Office of the Registrar: Indiana University Bloomington](http://gradedistribution.registrar.indiana.edu/gradedist.php?dept=BUS&subject=L&crse=201&clsnbr=&instrname=&report_selection=gradedist&search_process=go)

If you look at that, Shackleford is consistently around a 3.6 while Ginger is around a 2.0 for average GPA. The easy grading sections probably fill up first and you likely wouldn’t be able to get into them as a freshman. So it’s probably a a good idea to wait until you have enough credits and take a higher grading professor.

Hi
i have another question. M119 is calculus for business right? so that’s not really full fledged Calc I. Then why is the average gpa for that class so low?
Is it really hard or something?

^^It’s probably a combination of a few things. One, most of the people with strong math backgrounds from high school don’t have to take it. A lot of better Kelley students who don’t have AP Calc credit are advised to take M211, which is almost always a mistake. Also, the baseline for getting into the class is probably too low. The math placement test here I think tends to over-place people. And a lot of people in M119 as freshman probably had their last real math class as Algebra 2 in 11th grade. It will be interesting to see how the new pre-cal requirement impacts the GPA of that class.
