The scholarship info is somewhat confusing. We plan on calling after the break to confirm some of the info. The first letter my son received indicated a total amount for all scholarships he was awarded; however, three days later a second letter arrived awarding additional scholarship funds from both USP and CEHS, which it stated were above and beyond all merit scholarships he’d been awarded.
@HonoursDad Same situation here. My son received a similar letter for his formal UASP selection notification yesterday. It stated “and is in addition to other merit scholarships for which you may qualify.”
His preliminary scholarship award letter also stated a lump sum amount & specifically stated that the amount listed included consideration for all X, Y, Z award amounts.
We assumed this wasn’t in addition to what was in the prelim notification, just a formal UASP notification with clarification of the actual $ he was awarded since it wasn’t itemized initially.
Please keep us posted when you receive a response.
I got $15,000 per year. 32 ACT with a 91 GPA OOS
We received the 2nd letter from UASP that said the scholarship was “in addition to other merit scholarships for which you may qualify.” However, the original letter specifically says that “This award also reflects your selection for the University Academic Scholars Program,” and “Please note that your final package may contain one or more scholarships that will be combined for an annual total amount of at least $26,000.”
I did call before Christmas and was told that the initial letter was likely to be the final amount with the possible exception of departmental scholarships. Of course the scholarship amount would not include any need based aid.
I am now more confused than ever. From my understanding, selection to the Scholars program is selective and prestigious…so I am uncertain of why my scholarship amount was so small. Perhaps it was an error or maybe that’s just how the cards fell- either way, I am hopeful the university will respond to my email with answers.
Congratulations to everyone on the impressive award packages!
@catlover606 thanks for the feedback. We interpreted the initial award letter as saying his selection to Scholars was a contributing factor to his scholarship award, as part of their holistic review. The second letter indicates the UASP award specifically, “is specific to UASP participants and is in addition to all other merit scholarships”, as @jumbletumbles stated. Maybe I’m mis-reading both letters, but I hope not… thanks all, we will update the list with any feedback we receive from admissions.
@HonousDad It would be nice if your interpretation is correct, but I do not think so based on what I was told when I called. Please do update.
@mwoolley17 As jumbletumbles suggested I think you should call tomorrow. Perhaps there is an error.
I think the scholarship awards will make no sense to us… It seems random but is likely based on so many factors. Daughter received 15,000 and honors
with 33 ACT 4.2 Gpa OOS bio/pre-med major. We visited twice including meeting with pre-med advisor and observing a class so demonstrated interest was there. Good luck to everyone on their decisions! Miami is in her top two and will be deciding very soon I think.

I’m an OOS student, and I received $24,000 per year and UASP! No mention of honors on my portal or in the scholarship letter. I have a 35 ACT and 4.0 UW GPA.
Thanks for the info @Beaudreau… that helps. Am I reading the Miami website correctly where it states the offers have to be accepted by May 1st, or is it sooner than that?
@snydertech - May 1 is the day. I think that is close to universal.
Feeling lucky with my son’s scholarship amount. We are OOS with a 35 ACT and a 4.71 WGP and 3.85 un-weighted.
He didn’t hear about Scholars yet, but is in honors with a $30K per year award. We will be doing a Make It Miami day so he can visit the campus.
@TACful that goes beyond their highest published merit award amount! Wow, congrats to you and your son. That must be such a relief. Campus is gorgeous- it looks like a posh indie film’s idea of a university. Congrats again
I got 28.5K a year for a total of 114K over 4 years! This is even more than the grid showed, maybe because of tuition inflation. Plus I got a letter today saying I will get 2K a year for UASP. In this letter, it says up to 10 students in UASP will be able to be a part of Stamps Scholars. Does anyone know when this is announced?
In State applied regular decision, but received letter stating that d was getting early notification before the normal date. 33 ACT, $10,000, no mention of Honors or UASP?? not sure if it was because she was notified early? let me know if any advice.
My d got 26000 plus the scholors letter - no mention of honors - second scholors letter lists 2000 for scholors plus 2000 for department - confused what total is and why she was not admitted to honors - stats 34 act 35 if superscore 4.8 gpa
@Jackier was the first scholars letter you mentioned the one from financial aid or was it a separate letter? For the second letter that also mentions department award, did it come in a big envelope with a brochure type UASP insert with it?
The way they’re notifying people of their scholarships this year is confusing! I haven’t posted my child’s yet specifically because we too are confused about how much is for what & don’t want to add to the confusion. I plan to once the breakdown is known, but until then, I can only make guesses.
And FWIW, it’s looking like UASP $1-2k awards are being rolled into the scholarship packages, thus some people are receiving > the merit grid awards.
My understanding is that the Stamps Scholarship nominations haven’t been forwarded yet & isn’t likely to be announced until sometime in Spring. It involves an interview from what I’ve read so I can only guess that those nominated will be the first to know. And once a threshold is met, stats no longer matter in selection. They seem to look at ECs, service, & leadership qualities in their selection process.
