Kid just got hers in the mail today. From Carlson School of Management.
Was your kid NMF?
It’s been 5 weeks since admission and still no scholarship so wondering if maybe nothing is coming since it seems many others have heard. Not NMF but pretty good stats (33 act, 3.7uw/4.4w) and very good ECs. Was hoping for some $$ so fingers crossed. OOS
After 5 weeks if no honors notification does that generally indicate a no-go also?
@doglover2001 - hope not! My student is still waiting on Honors at CLA. His sister was given honors at Carlson two years ago in October with similar stats - but she was NMSF. I think they are sending out the first batch of honors and scholarships right now. Honors notification will continue through March, per the Admissions Office. Maybe once they get all the applications in at year end they can speed things up a bit.
No NMF.
OOS (33 ACT, 4.0UW GPA, outstanding EC’s)
Got Honors letter and scholarship letter on same day.
$4,500/yr, $18k total.
Thank you for the information, is it also posted on the portal?
Nothing different on the portal.
S19 just got a scholarship packet in the mail to the tune of $10,000 / year. Still no honors but now we are a lot more hopeful. Totally unexpected as it didn’t show up on Informed Delivery.
Congratulations @JBStillFlying !
Wow! That’s fantastic!!! @JBStillFlying
That’s great! @JBStillFlying! We are in the opposite boat. Heard about honors ages ago, but no word on scholarships. Thought with being in honors and a NMSF she’d get something, but who knows!?
NMSF should be eligible for the gold so that must be forthcoming at some point. You can always call to find out what the story is. It’s odd that they would be taking their time on the national merit kids!
Seem to recall hearing that there is a smaller number of honors recipients than students who receive scholarships so you’d think one would be an uncontroversial subset of the other. Honors is top 10% and if that is not worth a merit scholarship I’m not really sure what is.
Interesting, S19 got in back in October but has only been told that the fin aid package won’t come until March. We are OOS but he has decent stats 35ACT, 3.9 UW, so it will make the decision pretty easy if no honors or aid.
Congrats to everyone with good news! DH’s cousin’s DD attends and loves it.
@drewsmom17 that’s their standard line when they don’t have anything to tell you - technically accurate but completely unhelpful >:D< Fin. aid. award letters are distributed in the spring but the U hands out merit throughout the application cycle. Most if not all will be distributed by March. A few last year received something even after that! Your son’s stats are in a good place to think he’s eligible for merit at some point.
Also, now that we’ve had a chance to review my son’s awards, looks like a portion is presidential and another portion CLA-specific. That got me thinking. CLA had its own application process for merit and probably a deadline that only recently passed. Other colleges do NOT have a similar, separate application - but every college gives out at least some merit aid and decisions over how to allocate university vs. college-specific merit funds might take some time to nail down for everyone. Admissions only sends out one package per recipient with all your awards included. So if something from the college is taking extra time to finalize that might keep a high-stats kid from hearing anything at all for a while - even if the bulk of the awards are university-specific and so directly within Admissions control. The problem is, if you call they won’t share information with you (or can’t - not sure which). We know callers who were told everything would be sent out by March only to have their awards arrive a day or two later! Go figure! Anyway, this is just a thought as to why some awards seem to be so delayed.
@JBStillFlying did your son get a Charles and Myrtle Stroud Scholarship earmarked for CLA? My kid got that but he got it within hours of pushing go on his online CLA scholarship application so I really don’t think that application had anything to do with that particular scholarship. And maybe your son got something else? My kid will be auditioning for music and will be eligible for music scholarships too so I’m not sure what that is going to look like.
I do definitely agree the honors/scholarship process doesn’t seem to have much rhyme or reason to it so don’t be alarmed if you haven’t heard yet!
@jbstillflying Thank you! That’s good to know and we will keep checking the mail. DH has lots of family there so it’s a location I wouldn’t mind for S19.
@MusakParent he didn’t get the Stroud scholarship but another one. Who know how these things work? :-? Also, son found out to his dismay that he’d need to write a thank you letter to get the funds every year. Oh the Humanity :))
We explained that writing thank you letters to people and organizations willing to give you thousands of dollars is kind of what the grownups do and that he’d better get used to it if he wanted more.
Ha - one of my kid’s scholarship also requires the annual thank you note! Adulting is so very hard! :))
Are scholarship decisions rolling? If so, about how long does it take to receive scholarship notification?
@blazinamazin2023 - who knows? They’ve been rolling out since November and will continue to do so until March . . .
A little late in posting, but scholarship letter came sometime over break (I think week of Christmas). $10,000/year OOS. Ahhhh, now time for decisions, decisions since all merit has come in. Well, except Madison, but know that will be a big $0.
