To the best of my knowledge, all recipients for scholarships that had separate applications are invited to Scholars Interview Weekend. Not all finalists (recipients) end up with full tuition scholarships. A mix of half and full tuition scholarships are offered. In some cases a recipient may recieve half tuition from two different programs. I don't believe that any of the scholarships included in the two interview weekends are awarded to people not invited to the weekends.

WashU also awards other scholarships, that do not require a separate application. Although most of those do weigh need and may not be strictly merit based.

"By early March, the Engineering Fellowship Board will select up to 12 finalists. The finalists will be invited to visit Washington University for personal interviews. To remain eligible for the scholarship, finalists will need to come to Washington University March 22 - 25, 2007 for the interview and related activities. Washington University will pay all expenses for this trip to St. Louis.

After Finalist Weekend, each finalist will be notified by mail of the value of his or her academic fellowship or scholarship. Up to four Langsdorf Fellows and one Myers Scholar will be named. In addition, up to 28 Woodward Fellows will be notified in early April."

This is directly from the Wash U website and concerns Engineering Schlolarship interviewees. For this department only 12 out of the 33 recipients actually attend the interviews. With this being said not all of the recipients from any deparment will actually attend the scholarship weekend. Hope this helps

Cressmom: what scholarship did he recieve? The only one that seems possible is the Woodward. I have copied the info from the WashU site below:

Engineering Academic Fellowships include:
Up to four Alexander S. Langsdorf full-tuition fellowships with a $2,500 stipend
Up to one George W.F. and Martha Russell Myers full-tuition scholarship with a $1,000 stipend
Up to 28 Calvin M. Woodward half-tuition scholarships

He has a Woodward Fellowship, he was notified by the end of February and he didn't have to go to interviews. There are a few more that received scholarships with no interviews in his class, and years before.

cressmom:Thanks. That is what I thought. Yes, for some of those no interview. Engineering has a good chunk of the half tuition ones which is nice. Gives a lot more good kids an opportunity for merit money. I am assuming he likes it there?

They can't have ended yet, since it doesn't seem like anyone on here's been notified about the Honorary Scholars program. But maybe that's done at a different time.

I think they will continue this weekend, hopefully! Ahh this suspense is killing me. I realized that more than the money (which I badly need) the thing I want most from being a finalist is being on campus again, and all the special treatment involved in being a scholarship winner.

I just found out that Honorary Scholars will be notified by snailmail (but possibly in addition to other methods and possibly sooner). It will be sent out Feb 26th, so next monday.

Yeah, the money will make attending a lot easier, and a lot more justifiable in terms of other merit offers. But you're right, Chet, it's just about that - making the means to get to such a great place. At this point, I just plain want to know so I can stop losing sleep one way or another... of course one way would be better than another ;)
But when you say honorary scholarships haven't been notified, does that imply that danforths/ervins/rodriguezes can be over already?
