I know this is probably a stupid question, but: How are we supposed to be dressed going to the airport? I know for the interviews we have to be dressed formally but how about when we actually arrive? Can I just wear jeans and a t-shirt?

When is finalist weekend for Rodriguez? Is it the same as Ervin (Mar. 26-28)?

Also, what is formally? I mean, I wore a nice sweater and slack or a blazer and jeans for my alumni interviews for other colleges but is business attire like a suit?

Do we stay in dorms?

One other thing, have any of the Ervin finalists gotten any materials in the mail yet with more info?

@syndicate: I went to Discovery Weekend and I just wore jeans and a t-shirt. The only events that were scheduled for the first day were meet and greet stuff. I met my host (the person you’ll be living with for a few days) and we walked around campus for awhile until I had to go to a scheduled event that was basically just a giant get together of all of the prospective freshmen. I can only assume that Finalist weekend will follow the same procedure.

@Crozet: The finalist weekend for Rodriguez is the same as Ervin (I checked the website for you). I can only assume that business attire (especially for the final interview for a scholarship), would be a suit. And I got my letter in the mail today although I know of some people who got their’s yesterday. In the letter it said that we would be staying in dorms with a current Ervin Scholar.

Anyone hear about the art scholarships? The web site says notification is in early March but everything else I see says that all scholarship finalists have had their notification already.

greenwitch, did you check your account? if it doesn’t say you didn’t get it, then you still may be in the running. My D’s said she didn’t get it.

Erm…did the letter say anything about dress code and such? Where are you getting this stuff about dressing formally? :x

I would love to know what everyone plans to wear to the interview. For the alumni interview, my son would not wear a sports coat or sweater, just dress shirt and khakis - I guess business casual. It seems like these scholarship interviews are more formal. Are the guys wearing jackets/ties, sweaters…what? Thanks.

I still haven’t received anything for Ervin even though I talked to WashU a week ago and they said they would mail more info.

What did you all get and if possible, what did it say?

Actually, I just looked at the letter. It says nothing about what to wear for the interview.

I am a finalist for the University Scholars Program in Medicine - I am planning to wear a business suit for the interview, and semiformal on the other days … will this work?

also, does anyone know what day the interview will be for this program during the weekend?

and congrats to all the finalists!

hey! if you attend the scholarship finalist weekend at the end of march, is that a binding committment to attend the university? even if you win a scholarship for full-tuition, can you still go to a different college?

thanks! congrats to all the finalists!

@Rubix: I attended Discovery Weekend this past September and had an interview then. From what I’ve heard, most of the other kids had interviews with students but for some reason I had an interview with admissions officers and a teacher (I think it might have been because I visited before and had an interview then). Either way, it was much more formal than I was anticipating and I felt horribly underdressed in my jeans and blouse. It is only my assumption that this being interviews for the finals of a scholarship that you would want to give the best impression you could and I interpret this as wearing buiness attire.

@bookie: It actually does mention dressing in business attire on the actual schedule. It’s right next to the information on the interview.

@1234656jenna: I plan on dressing semiformal the rest of the time also so you won’t be alone! And the Ervin interviews are on Saturday and i would imagine it’s the same for the other programs since teachers/pogram directors have to teach/work during the week.

With your stats, it’s not hard to get into HYP. I don’t understand why Stanford deferred you. Guess you are not black or from a low income family.
