What is the essay topic? and does this have to be different from your application essays?

I just got two letters from Michigan about 2 weeks after I got my acceptance letter. The first was a letter asking me to join the honors college and the other was the $1500 Michigan Regents Scholarship ( Non-Renewable/ Merit-Based).

I just got the Regents Scholarship! I got accepted like three weeks ago. A thousand here, fifteen hundred there...it all adds up!

Congratulations! I am still hoping for some scholarship money for my daughter, but so far it has been lots of ~congratulations, please send the $200 deposit as soon as possible, and no ~please come, here's some money to sweeten the deal!~

F-U-C-K

only honors letter here, no monies.

I don't understand the scholarships.
My friend got accepted yesterday, with a 12,000 LSA Dean's Scholarship in the admissions packet. While she is a smart individual, I don't believe her stats are spectacular... That leads me to believe that she must have written really good essays.
I got accepted a week ago, but no money yet. :(

Also, she is not URM..

Just got a letter for the Award of Excellence. By submitting my FAFSA and CSS I will be considered for a need/merit 2000-12000 per year renewable scholarship. This is IN ADDITION to me Michigan Scholars Award of $60,000 over four years. YEAH!!

damn, I want a scholarship!!!!!!!

I cant afford 40,000 a year!!!!!

wait, valawe, did you already submit fafsa and CSS? and are you black/native american/hispanic?

lol, i really got screwed then. i submitted good essays, but they were nothing compared to my harvard, cornell, and medical scholars essays i've written.

i got the 2-14,000 thing too. How many people are nominated and how many actually get it?

Good job on getting that money. See if you can describe the specific scholarships for us.

No, I am white.

valawe, you are from new hampshire, which is an underrepresented state!

Awesome on the MSA!

Ironic how it is cheaper to live out of state in a smaller, rural area than to apply from in-state if you have good stats.

Are there any hawaii, alaska, north dakota, montana, rhode island, etc applicants?

What are the URStates? Obviously Hawaii, Alaska, Dakotas, and those really weird states that I never hear anything about...what else?

deep south, like alabama, missisippi, louisiana. also some of the mountain states like idaho, utah, etc.

My daughter got the Regent's Merit Scholarship in yesterday's mail. It is a one time $1500 payment towards tuition. It came in a separate envelope that had a return address that said Regent of U-M Merit Scholarship, about a week after admission packet arrived.

Is she In-state, or OOS? I know some qualified people, more so than me, that have not gotten any money yet.

i know. this is so unfair. it seems like a lot of people are getting money..and i still haven't heard anything yet. it seems like there's no way for me to get anything now ...although i don't know why. i wonder what they're basing the criteria for the scholarships on.

Congrats fredmar.
