Scholarship

How hard is it to get the presidential scholasrship (or any 1/2 + university scholasihp) at NYU?
For me in specific, I have a:
GPA - 97 UW
SAT - 2150 (780M,680CR,690W) - will retake for ~1520/2250
SAT II - math II - 800 / physics - 790 / US history - november (expecting 750-800).
APs - 5s in 5. 4s in 3 (National AP scholar).
Doing this research program in the summer and hope to make at least siemnes semifinalist.
A lot of work in Debate (president - 1st at regional tournaments), magazine (editor in chief - 1st place award at competition), .... dont wish to mention bc im too lazy right now.

Is it real tough. Harder than getting into like harvard/mit?
Thanksa

I'm not sure how difficult it is to get one. I received one but I don't know how many people do, or how many they offer. What's nice is that you don't have to seperatly apply for it, they just base it off of your application.

I got 20,000 per year with worse stats than yours, but I also know someone who didn't get one w/better stats than yours. In other words, it's pretty random

scholarships aren't random. what someone may lack in statistics they make up for in essays or vice versa. it's all about your appeal to the fin aid board.

My son received a 15K Trustee scholarship and a 15K Carroll and Milton Petrie scholarship. Part merit/part need. The FI office swore to me that they were for 4 years if we continued to show need (and we will). FWIW, we are not so needy as to have received a Pell Grant. My EFC is 12K (and I'll be paying every cent of that and then some). Not to mention the out of pocket costs that living in NYC will involve

And that 30K per year still doesn't cover the entire cost of tuition and fees....

Stop whining that's a great package. I'm sure it's better that 95% of the packages anyone else got.

Mathwiz - I am not sure as to which college you're applying, but my friend with verrrry similar numbers and ECs (SAT is in the range of your future re-take) got an under $10,000 scholarship from Stern. It doesn't seem as if you're, but I just wanted to warn you.

I think you have a great chance! You definitely have the stats for it, now the next step is to enhance your application through your resume and essays.

is it possible to come in as a freshman without a scholarship and receive one later on in my college years? i believe that you can apply to the presidential honors program going into your soph year. do they give you a scholarship if you get into this program as an incoming soph?
