Scholarships from Chemistry / Biology Departments?

Do the Chemistry or Biology departments give any scholarships similar to the $2,500 per year scholarship given by the College of Engineering? If yes, how does one apply for that?

No, they don’t.

For any other scholarships for incoming frosh, the regular scholarship app is used.

Frankly, if a frosh is getting a large scholarship (full tuition, NMF, etc) then he won’t likely be awarded any of the small dept scholarships that might be awarded. Those are usually given to those who weren’t awarded the big scholarships. The exceptions are the eng’g scholarships, and the talent scholarships (art, music).

Another possible exception…sometimes science majors with really high stats (ACT 35-36) are awarded an extra annual scholarship (usually a few thousand per year). This isn’t guaranteed, and the selection process is somewhat of a mystery. In the past, NMFs weren’t awarded this. It seemed to be given to A&S science students with very high stats who didn’t make NMF.

The deadline for returning students to apply for additional UA scholarships was Dec 1 (as it is every year).

One thing to consider if your child has any interest in engineering - my daughter can’t decide between chemistry (and eventually pharmacy school) or chemical engineering. We met with a Chemical Engineering professor during our visit and she told dd that she can double major in chemistry and chemical engineering and stay in the engineering school - thus getting the $2500 scholarship. She was excited to hear that not only for the $$ but because she can double major.
