Artdad, call Scholarship Office and ask who is in charge of NMScholarships. If your student is NMS, I recommend dealing with that office rather than the general Honors or general Scholarship people. They are VERY helpful.

Artdad, we found Myra Gonzalez to be quite helpful. She led the scholarship info session at Scholar’s Day and held her own after being peppered with every possible question about national merit scholarships.

She was also responsive to one of my son’s questions after we got home. If you still need to contact someone, PM me and I’ll give you her email address.

Thanks BringBackPluto - Great information! I am just so anxious to accept the offer and get registered for the New Student Conference dates that she wants and get everything settled. We are so very blessed to have such of a great daughter and student, so I should just be thankful and not so impatient.

Eaglemom10 - I feel your pain…I went to A&M many years ago and I love the school, but their Admissions/FA/Scholarship Staff seem very unorganized, un-professional and slow. We have received multiple cards and calls courting my daughter from schools from all over the country and not much from A&M and what we do get isn’t very clear. Hopefully we will know something concrete in the next 2 weeks. It is still her #1 pick, but she is getting frustrated.

Alright I got my official MERIT scholarship offer, it was decently generous.

it totaled to be 78,000/80,000 but technically only 68,000 cause those are the only ones i will accept.

Start checking your mail!

@OMG09: Congrats!

So, a notice comes via snail mail or email? Is it also in the scholarship section in Howdy?

If I may be so nosey, why would you turn down any $$ ? Is it an either/or situation?

Thanks eaglemom! Haha it came via snail mail today. Of course feel free to ask questions! One was an $8000 dollar Corps of Cadets one which I am not participating one and the other was for NMSF $3000 if you wanted to stay a 5th year (not for me). Those are the two i will not receive

Well that certainly makes sense. So, are these amounts also showing in the Howdy Portal?

Lol sorry forgot about that question. No i checked and did not find it anywhere. Maybe the only do once you accept enrollment.

We didn’t get our offer in the mail today. I talked with the office and they mailed them Friday afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow.

I received an offer today, though there’s nothing in my Howdy Portal yet.

Hi guys. When you go to the Howdy portal, make sure you click on the link labeled “Fall 2011, Spring 2012, and Summer 2012” in the Financial Aid Portal. At first, I did not realize that there was a link and only saw “Total Aid: $0.00”. Clicking on the link takes you to the the details to see what you have been offered. Hope this helps someone!

@rse2010

You are a genius. Yeah you can check kind of what you got through financial aid. What all did you guys get offered? I have no clue how I’m gonna choose where to go.

TAMU also sent some love to my DS! For those who wonder, he’s not NMF but he did receive the Lechner and a Corps scholarship. He’s pretty happy. We will still wait to see what other schools offer, but TAMU is looking quite nice right now!

Good luck to all the rest of you! I hope the mail carrier brings you a nice envelope with an even nicer letter!

^Speaking of NMF …
My son is NMF. The letter that arrived in the mail today includes a lot of merit aid, but it does not include any NMF awards.

As those of you who received the letter know, there’s the “Yours Now” portion of the letter and the “Yours to Claim” portion of the letter.

In the “Yours to Claim” portion, there are three different categories of NM money – NM Recognition Award, NM Recognition Award Supplemental Scholarship, and National Merit Sponsorship.

Does anybody have the inside scoop on which of the three NM scholarships apply? (As stated by the OP, one of them seems to be for a 5th year of undergraduate study. Can that be taken later? Or do students have to choose to do a 5th year now, “or else?” And when do the other two NM scholarships apply? He sends in TAMU as his first choice and then both are his? One is his? Is there more to do?)

Thanks!

SL, I read it that any scholarship on the “Yours to Claim” list is for the taking. As long as the student lists TAMU as his number one choice with the NM Scholarship Corp by the “deadline posted” (I’m still not clear on the date of the deadline but I think it’s April 26) the student will receive all of the three scholarships listed.

Don’t know the answer to this.

My DS received a similar NM Scholarship, and the offer states to name Texas A & M as the number one choice by the deadline posted. Does anyone know when this date is? Where can I find this information? Thank you.

SimpleLife: Regarding your question about the three different NM awards listed. Your son will receive the NM Award automatically. If your son is not selected by the NM Corp. as one of their “Scholars” or does not receive a corporate sponsorship, he will get the NM Sponsorship scholarship from TAMU. You can’t get sponsored by both a college, a corporation, and NM itself. It is a big mystery as to how NM selects which students they will sponsor or not. My son was sponsored by NM Corp., and he got the $2500 all in one lump his first semester. If you get a TAMU sponsorship, it is divided over several semesters. Regarding the supplemental scholarship, that is there should your child need an extra semester or two. Frequently, students do need that extra year if they are majoring in a field such as engineering. Most engineering students don’t graduate in 4 years unless they have a huge amount of AP credit, are willing to take summer classes, or are willing to take 17-18 hours in a semester. You don’t have to decide if you will be taking a 5th year or not at this time. No one can predict the future; however, that amount is there should your child need it and providing he/she remains honors eligible and meets the GPR requirement. Also, FYI…keep checking that Howdy Portal because sometimes certain endowed scholarships get increased later in the spring. That happened to us, and it was a nice surprise. :)

Lechner or mcfadden is for instate and outofstate kids right?
