Scholarships?

My daughter was recently notified (by e-mail) of having been awarded a Morrill Scholarship - excellence level. As of yet she has not received any formal notification in the mail. She was previously notified of having received the Buckeye scholarship for out of state qualifying students. Our understanding is that these 2 can be combined. I am wondering if we should expect to receive something in the mail outlining the total scholarship amount and how and when it will be applied to her account.
She is about to withdraw her commitment to UNCCH (Her top pick school) because of the enormity of her scholarship offer from OSU. I guess I would like to have something on paper confirming her awards before she withdraws her UNC commitment. Should we be receiving something soon? I will probably try calling the school, but I thought perhaps someone might have a quick answer on this sight . Sorry for the babbling....it's my first time submitting a post!

I think it's unlikely the email was in error, but you should call if it will relieve your worries.

Yes, the two amounts will be combined and 1/3 of each will be applied to each quarter every year. You will be able to see the credit on her Statement of Account. Don't pay the remainder until just before school starts because it takes that long for all of the amounts to be credited properly. As long as she keeps the GPA minimum, she can use the $ for 12 quarters of attendance.

Congrats by the way. :-)

we also recieve the excellence, and it was posted on our financial status page.it takes a while for the awards to be posted after they change them.they combine the two scholarships and pay the left over amount to create full out of state tuition. i know that soundsconfusing, but that is the way it is. i visited osu this past weekend and even if i had to pay a little more i would have enrolled. we did get an award letter this week, but the e-mail was good enough for us

If your daughter has a OSU user name, she can log in financial aid site and obtain a print out of her actual award. My daughter is OOS and was able to print out her confirmed award. She also received an award letter in the mail. This is where your daughter should go to check her award:
<a href="http://sfa.osu.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://sfa.osu.edu/</a>. By the way, my daughter was denied at UNC and received the excellence + non residence excellence at OSU. A blessing for sure!! Glad daughter will be a Buckeye!!

i heard a rumor (?) that there were so many nmf who applied to osu that they aren't going to give all of us the full tuition. anyone else heard this?

I just got my status online, and it was very good. They combined the Morrill Excellence scholarship with the NMF scholarship. With grants, the package covers everything. I'm very excited!

Congrats, Chrys!

Whynot123, that rumor sounds unfounded to me.

Our DD is a NMF and did put OSU as her #1 school. She called OSU and they told her that she did not get the full tuition scholarship.

We had actually put the deposit down, counting on getting that $$ to attend OSU.

Wow, Dad II, that stinks! When we did our honors tour, it was implied that all NMF would get the full tuition scholarship, but they did say-- we can't guarantee it.

My s missed the cutoff by two points, : (.

Did your D get any other scholarships from OSU?

^^, I think all she got is $2,700 Maximus. She did get a state award for her to attend any university in Ohio and the $2500 National Merit Scholarship.

I received the NMF award for full tuition. Does anyone know if they have already handed out engineering department scholarships?

My S has already received an engineering scholarship -- it was listed on his financial aid page. I don't know if that means that they all have been awarded.

DadII-- My S received $2700 Maximus, $2000 Engineering, and also the Ohio Academic.

Well, we got DD to log into her student account from the sfa page for the first time tonight. To our surprise, she did get the full tuition scholarship. I don't get it, why whomever answered her call told her not. Why OSU did not even send an e-mail for such a big $$ award?

In any case, it is too late and she has mailed out the form to switch her NM scholarship to a different school.

Dad II - If she really wants to go to OSU it probably isn't too late. The people at NMSC are pretty easy to deal with. You could call them and tell them to ignore the notification to change the award. I'm sure they would work with you to straighten things out.
