So today i got the provost (2.5k/yr renewable). But thats all that came. Does this mean that is all the merit I am gonna get or could it come later?

Unless you are invited to Maximus or qualify for something under National Merit, I would think that is all the OSU-sponsored merit aid you qualify for. That's not so say that there might be other financial aid based upon need, but merit-wise there are only certain avenues available.

Good luck!

esmitty01, my daughter has not heard about merit scholarships as of this date. She should qualify for the OOS award. When did you receive your acceptance letter? Trying to gauge the amount of time between acceptance and scholarship notification. Thanks!

like dec 19th or so....

Thanks, so around 5 weeks later. She received her acceptance January 9. Hopefully, we'll hear something by the end of February. Another question, have you sent in your acceptance fee? I wonder if it has any bearing on notification????

houstonmom- it has nothing to do with acceptance fee. the scholarships are merit aid that you get offered depending on where you stand in your school. to even qualify for the maximus competition you're supposed to be in the top 3% of your class (thats the full ride).
one of my friends who got into osu a week or two after me heard about scholarships sooner because we were eligible for different scholarships. My guess is that you would hear before the end of Feb.

esmitty - i just heard about the provost today as well. there are other scholarships out there you just have to find them, try calling/emailing the osu scholarship people? or maybe it was just financial people? I talked to them about finding OSU merit scholarships that weren't directly from the university, i'm sure they could help you.

Thanks freezinginthesno. There are several merit based scholarships--Maximus, Provost, National Buckeye and more. They are listed on the website. I noticed most of the posts here mention the Maximus award and not much about the others. Good to see other awards starting to surface.

The Maximus weekends are coming up -- if you haven't heard by now, I think it's too late/

We heard about the Buckeye at the same time as Maximus -- you should call and see

National Buckeye Scholarship for non-Ohio residents

Award amount
$7,200 ($28,800 fouryear value)

Criteria

Ohio State is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student
population. The National Buckeye Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis to non-Ohio students required to pay the out-of-state surcharge who are admitted to the Columbus campus for autumn quarter. Those considered have ACT composite scores of 27 or higher or combined SAT Critical Reading and Math scores of 1220 or higher.

freezinginthesno: can you give me the email address of who you talked to? I can't get a response from anyone.... You can PM me if you want

So I still havent heared anything about the national buckeye scholarship..am I out of hope at this point?

Viper, it's not too late. I called about 2.5 - 3 weeks ago and they said they were starting to send the scholarship letters out and it would take about six weeks to get done with the process. My son just got his letter today and he got the $ 7,200 per year National Buckeye Scholarship for non-residents. He applied in early October, if that helps.

I just looked at the letter DS got and he failed to mention that in addition to the National Buckeye Scholarship he got a Trustee Scholarship for another $1, 050 a year. We're very happy with this.

My son received letter last week notifying him he is to receive a provost scholarship for 2100 per year and the national Buckeye scholarship for 7200 per year

It's been over a month since anyone's posted but I got the Trustee and National Buckeye scholarships today!

& OSU went from being a school I'm definitely not going to, to a maybe. :]

Anyone know if for the National Merit Scholarship (the full tuition one) the FAFSA must be in by the priority date, or if they're unrelated? I emailed someone in the honors college who had sent me a letter about NMS opportunities, but I thought maybe someone here had experience with it. Any NMS here who are at OSU?

I'm a NMS at OSU. (Hah... acronyms!) I very much doubt I filed the FAFSA for OSU, because I knew I wouldn't qualify for aid. I believe they're unrelated.

But obviously I could be wrong, the whole ordeal was a while ago. Why don't you e-mail or call some of the financial aid/scholarship people, just to be safe?

im a natl merit finalist--have you all already been notified of the national merit full tuition scholarship that we are supposed to get? when are we supposed to get notified of this?

I emailed the lady (from the Honor's Program, I think) whose name was on the initial letter about NMS opportunities I got back in the fall or early winter. She said that I did not need to file the FAFSA and that I would be notified in mid-April. Do scholarships come up on the financial aid website that requires the log-in, or do I have to wait for something in the mail? I sent in my deposit, but my parents are freaking out a little because we haven't heard anything besides the initial Maximus award.

I don't think the FAFSA is involved with the NMS award since it is need-blind. My son received it last year but I forget the progression of notifications. It was listed on the OSU award summary that student financial aid has on their secure site. We also received notification from the NMSC.

As I recall, the OSU notification was first on the web page in mid-april with a letter that followed. The NMSC notification came later after we officially accepted the OSU financial award. Sorry that I can't recall the actual dates without going home and pulling out the file. Good luck.

Thanks, Parent, for the info! I guess I'll just keep checking that Student Financial Aid website and hope it comes up sometime soon.
