I got a letter in the mail inviting me to the awards, but it didn’t tell me that i won the gold key. I found that out from my teacher.

I’m still hoping mine made it in. I sent it off on Tuesday morning, before the first pickup at 12. I live just south of Los Angeles. Think it made it there by Friday?

they are really, really good about deadlines. last year i was able to submit mine a week late

obstinate: i live in/near LA too. you applied for RAL, right? i think it’s so weird that there’s not a regional writing thing for los angeles. i mean, it’s los angeles. come on.

oh and hi everyone, i know im joining the conversation a bit late…i probably shouldve joined college confidential BEFORE submitting apps…oh well.

Yeah, region-at-large. That was amazing to me also. Kinda ridiculous at that!

Haha, California’s a weird place. Here in NorCal, the only regional contest is San Fransisco County, yet our county, Santa Clara County, which includes San Jose, is twice the population of SF county and we don’t have a regional contest either.

what did you guys submit? this was probably listed like 7 pages ago, but, even for me, that’s a lot of reading…
i submitted a general writing portfolio, 3 short-shorts, 2 short stories, and one personal essay/memoir.

I sent in one personal essay. Just one.

I’m a junior though.

Personal essay, 4 collections of poetry, and 8 photographs.

Sent in 1 Short Short Story for the RAL region. Which, as ca2013 pointed out, is really odd, as I live near the LA area. D:

Anyone from NY writing hear back yet?

I got my results. Nothing. But that doesn’t really surprise me. My teachers always marvel over my writing, but it never wins any contests, and I do poorly on ACT and SAT essays.

^ JBVirtuoso, how did you find out?

The regional office sent a letter to my school with the winners. I think the awards ceremony for my region is next week or something.

toomart4u, and anyone else who submitted RAL:
have you heard back from scholastic yet? and if you did, what did you submit for (art or writing)?

just curious.
also, if we didn’t win anything, will we hear from scholastic?

RAL won’t hear anything until mid march.
if you don’t win anything, you don’t be notified.

oh ok-- thanks!

Nope, I haven’t heard back yet… so nervous for March! haha

Do you have to be in a art class to enter?
Because I do my drawings independently, but when I tried to apply it said I needed a teacher’s signature so I ended up not sending anything in…
