does anyone have any idea when the National Awards for smaller writing categories will be announced??

This is all sooo confusing...

Second week of May? I think that's what it said on the FAQ I got...?

Well, congratulations to everybody. Don't worry, CA fellows, I have heard and seen nothing about winners. Patience (I can't believe I just said that; I want to KILL somebody at Scholastic!!!)

Well, anyway, about NYC in Carnegie -- do you have to pay your way there??

Gold Key in short short story! (and no, it's not a typo...) Woohoo!

the info i got said that yes, you have to pay your own way to NYC.

Oh yes, you def have to pay your own way and pay for the hotel--they do give you info on what hotel they have negotiated a cheap rate with...grab that as it has generally been less $$ but it does sell out. Good luck! and Congratulations!

anyone in illinois hear?

Anyone from Illinios or Georgia(writing) hear?

I hope those jerks at scholastic realize what this is doing to us. No news from the California front.

hah...this is awful...I was like, "well, if I don't hear today then I'm FINALLY going to give up," but people in Cali still haven't heard, so I can't give up yet. Mrrr....it's very inconvenient >:(

Lol----Anyone from Illinois, Georgia, or California hear/get news/weeping internally(except those waiting)/ celebrating?

Seriously though, if so, please post!

Also.

"To give you an idea of how many qualify for national level review, panels of professional jurors reviewed more than 7,148 works of art and 1,717 manuscripts to select the 1,400 national award recipients in 2006"
--------This statement was copied form the SA&WA page. Can someone estimate how many writing awards will be given of say (1,400)?

Ped: I'm from California!

I think that people that got national awards got an e-mail notification, but the RAL regional awards are still "in the mail"...

The only national winners notified by e-mail were the portfolio winners, who were announced in an e-mail last week. Every other national category is notified by regular mail, and it doesn't seem like anyone has gotten a letter for nationals yet.

To those still waiting - the RAL notifications were mailed from Maine, so that may explain why people on the East Coast got theirs already...it may take longer for other states.

Ped - According to my letter, 1,300 Gold Keys were awarded for 5,000 RAL submissions. Of a total of about 3,000 Gold Key awards (regional plus RAL), about 400 will win national awards (not including the 80 or so writing portfolios that will receive national awards.).

From a mailing I got with my Gold Key for photography under FAQ:
"How will I know if my work is selected to reveive a National Award?"
"If your work is selected for a national award, you will receive an email notification and a mailed award notification packet to arrive at the student's home address.......Other art award recipients are notified during the weeks of March 2-9. Because the judging process for the writing wawards takes longer, an email notification will be sent out in late-March with a letter notification arriving to the student's home address by early april....."

Hope this helps. Just what I received

I hope scholastics knows what they are doing to us, putting us through all this agony.

I won gold key and american voice nominee for regionals but I haven't heard a thing yet here in florida about nationals(i wrote a short story) does anyone know anything? the submission form stated that we would be notified in late april. I consider April 25th late april =]

amelia_peabody--thanks for that info! you saved me from near-despair...

you're welcome -- I'm glad to be able to pass on any info I can. My sister and I have entered before, and the awards notifications were delayed like this. All you waiting for news from nationals, don't lose hope!
