Well, I normally work out and swim daily, so it takes care of staying in shape....

Latest mile time: 5:54 ~95% percentile for age...

My mile time was slightly over 7:30, not bad considering I'm pretty out of shape.

Invoy, your 1rm calculations fail. Your 1rm isn't anywhere near 230, let alone 265. It's probably 215 max (which is still really good.)

I don't know how you calculated it, but you, **sir,/B forgot the # of reps. You fail. And both are two different categories, just to let you know - where one is much higher than another.

It's only awkward because as I've already said, I've started at low weight, high reps, and that was a couple weeks ago also, so I'm actually well above 12+ reps, which is very unusual to calculate 1rm, thus I had to sort of extrapolate.

With lower reps my average numbers will be significantly higher. Even at 12 reps 1rm becomes 230, so it's much higher.

youfail. and just to tell you, 215 isn't that good for 1rm..

OMGSSSH so happy beat my best mile time today!!!!! 5:40 FTW alrite, I'm done :D
(I know it's probably slower than a lot of you, but I'm feeling very elated right now =D)

Do you have PE? I thought you're in lifting? You run miles?

Ah well, I ran a mile yesterday too and I got 5:55...somehow I broke the 6 mark.

I'm pretty happy about that too, since I'm pretty slow in running anyways.

Congrats DataBox! I think I ran my mile back in freshman year in... I want to say 6:something, lol. Granted I was 13 at the time and wasn't really trying, as I only needed for it to be under ten and so didn't care to really exert myself, haha.

I have PE the whole year, and had a zero period lifting until about two weeks ago...stopped once the polo season was over, I'll probably join again during swim season...

for me: 3+ meals a day, lifting 3x/week, 3 seasons of varsity sports, conditioning every weekday morning over the summer. plus additional activities like ultimate frisbee (note: if you're competitive and have some athletic and competitive friends, regularly playing frisbee can keep you in great shape. our games get intense)
i consider myself to be relatively in shape. i'm no health freak, but i'm content with myself and my physical fitness.

also, consider getting into punk rock and hardcore. mosh pits can be a ****ing workout, depending on the show/crowd. no lie. haha
to generalize this suggestion, find something physical that you like to do. sports are good, but it doesnt have to be a sport.

Does it matter...? we're in a body destined to break down after a certain number of years... probably encoded genetically.

A few pounds here and there don't matter too much...

Get in a sport. It's a nice EC and there is definite workout (too much in some cases...)

Wow you guys consider under 6 mins "OK"?? F*** me. I was at 6:30 in August!

You know what they say: life is a terminal disease. May as well kill yourself now.

HIIT

^ read about it. It burns fat and it only requires about 5-15 mins of it. 15 mins of HIIT (done correctly) is equivalent to an hour of jogging.

But if you're only eating 2 meals a day then you're not helping yourself. Believe it or not but the less you eat the more vulnerable you become to gain weight.

either 3 meals a day or 5 small meals a day.

as someone who ran a 4:43 mile, I will make this statement: HIIT IS BOGUS. It is the favored exercise regime of nerds everywhere, but unfortunately, there is no substitute for an hour of steady running.

A 4:43 mile is good.

+1...the fastest kid at my school's top record was 4:15 on a really really good day, so I'd say that's pretty damn baller.

Lucky, lol, I was never born a runner so I can't break the 5:30 barrier yet. I never get any practice too; I'm 100% sure now that you're in XC or track.

yay owned the PE final today!! 2 miles: 11:59 (1st Mile: 5:35, 2nd mile 6:24) yay :D

I've heard wonderful things about HIIT, so ChoklitRain, what are you basing your "statement" off of?

Lol, your 2nd mile's an epic fail. ;)

And my stats should be updated, it seems. I thought that I couldn't break 6 minutes, but that was a long time ago. Now I'm around 5:30~5:45, which isn't bad for a non-XC/track runner.

I'm more of a sports/lift person than running, although this involves running sometimes..

^lol I know, it was horrible D: I didn't pace myself well at all...lol
