Do you guys think that this changes the college atmosphere/school spirit?

yes
.

Yup. Just look at Duke-they don’t have a football team, and I’m sure that makes it difficult for them to be motivated in the fall.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist).

Haaaaaaaaaaaa

No not at all. My CC doesn’t have a football team, but they pride themselves with their basketball team.

I think you need one good sports team to help the school spirit.

I’m sure it has an effect.

Not everyone wants a sports dominated atmosphere. So yeah, it definitely changes it.

What about schools lacking the winningest college football team of all time? How do they survive?

There is no need for a sports team of any kind.

You’re in school for academics! What are you doing?

I’ll bet the Michigan team has been lots of fun to watch lately, especially when those Big10 teams come to town.

Ah yes…CC.

I think having a sports team is good. It’s always fun to go to a football game, even if you don’t like football it’s just fun to get drunk and cheer with everyone. Even if you don’t win I think it contributes a lot to school pride and stuff.

I don’t know, it depends on the person I guess. I go to Wisconsin and we did amazingly this year so I’m probably biased, but I feel like it does contribute a lot to school spirit and brings us all together as Badgers - the atmosphere of walking with your entire school to a football game is simply amazing and does wonders for school spirit. I don’t think sports are like the central focus, either. Maybe during football season, but if you want to avoid it that’s totally possible.

Probably changes it; whether that’s good or bad depends on the person.

:)

It can. There are schools that have football teams that do not contribute much to student spirit and social life, however.

My school’s football team isn’t very good and barely anyone goes to games (we’re not in a major conference) and I’m often jealous of all the big teams and all the students that support them. meh.

My school just elected to get a football team, and we just had the groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium last week. Unfortunately for me, I graduate next semester, so I pay more tuition to cover the costs, yet I probably will never see one of the games.

Football adds tremendously to my campus. We’re D2 and have the best attendance in the division. Without football, we would not have near the music program, which is one of our best programs, we have now. Other sports aren’t too big of a deal, but I can’t say that they hurt the campus’ vibe.

I’m sure it changes it, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

My school doesn’t have a football team, but it’s got a kickass lacrosse team which carries the sports like a football team would, ya know?
