Scooter or Cycle or just walking?

Which one would you recommend for on-campus to get to classes and stuff.

Walking. Almost everyone walks as there’s quite a few hills and stairs.

If you enjoy biking, I would recommend it. There are hills but they are manageable. Also, once you get used to the campus, you will know where all the elevators are at.

I use Anderson Elevator to North Campus or Boelter/Engineering IV elevators to south campus and never have to climb a hill.

I timed myself 15 minutes to walk from my apartment to class.
I timed myself biking to class with all green stop lights in just under 4 minutes.

Segway all the way

I don’t mean to be shallow or anything, but won’t a segway make everyone stare at you and make you conscious, haha.

Yes, and so will a scooter. 90% of the people I see with scooters are international Asian students that apparently don’t care that they look slightly ridiculous.

LOL hey I used a scooter last year and I’m not an international Asian student. And there are a good amount of caucasian athletes that use them as well.

That being said though…I probably will stop using the scooter. Not because I’m self-conscious of how I look, but because it really doesn’t save that much time and because it can be dangerous. When I timed myself walking from my apartment to my class, it took around 18 minutes. With a scooter, it would take me about 12 minutes because I still had to do SOME walking with a scooter.

Furthermore, there were number of incidents where I fell. And it hurt :frowning: One time, I was going down the big hill on Bruin Walk (where LATC is) and while going down, my wheel struck and got stuck in one of those water drains and I swear I literally jumped like 3 feet in the air and slid on the ground. I still have the scars on my hand =\ And that’s when everyone crowded around me and was like “DAYUMMMM…you okay man?” while all the 1st years were probably shaking their head.

Haha good times.

The athletes I see with scooters are the ones that you drive on a road, like a Vespa. And plus, athletes can get away with anything.

Malcolm Lee used a scooter sometimes

Hahahaha, I’m international and asian. Well, Pakistani actually, but it’s part of Asia haha. So then cycle or walking? Cut the scooter out. I really wish we had teleportation chambers. Or at least fireplaces.

If only we had floo powder, or if only Westwood Village was Hogsmead, or Rieber Court was Gryffindor Commons…

At least there’s quidditch on campus. Literally.

Dude just walk. Unless you live REALLY far away and it takes you like more than half an hour to walk to class, then get a bike. If you are living in the dorms, a bike is unnecessary and probably a burden.

Walk.

It’ll give you the most exercise so you don’t get the freshman 15 from dorm food too haha

Well, I’ll be living in De Neve and the furthest class I have is in Dodd Hall. So no bike, then?

And what do you mean there’s quidditch on campus? I must know more of this.

[UCLA Recreational Sports: Quidditch Club](http://www.recreation.ucla.edu/insidepage.aspx?uid=2a235b59-136e-4b45-89e2-0ca3a22a6b5b)

De Neve and Dykstra are the closest dorms to the campus. You don’t have to take the massive Rieber Stairs or go the extra mile like people in Hedrick Summit and Hedrick Hall do.

You’ll be fine. Expect a 13-20 minute walk, depending on your pace.

As far as the walk from De Neve/Dykstra: for me it was about a 10 minute walk from De Neve Evergreen to Young Hall (CS 50) or to Powell, and about a 15 minute walk to Murphy Hall. Of course, this is a fast walk, and if you are more casually walking, it would take longer

Longboards are probably the best way to go if you don’t wanna walk. You can easily carry them up or down the stairs

WALK. don’t bring a bike or a scooter unless you want to risk being embarrassed. if you can longboard/skateboard, then go ahead and use that.

^I always had a feeling I belong here.
