I received a 1500 on the new SAT's, and a 1040 on the old SAT's. I am wondering which scores would be more accepted by college admissions, and which score I should submit.
If someone would let me know I would appreciate it!

You have no choice. They will both be on your score report. Which also means, you don't have to worry about which they will accept more.

Of course, they will take 1500 into consideration.

you mean 1500 with M,CR, and W right? i would reccomend you turn in the old one, but i didnt know you could do that! i thot all colleges only took the new one?

can you give us a breakdown? with the 1500 score, your average sub-test score is a 500, whereas with the 1040 it's 520. Not a great difference. Plus, colleges like to see writing scores and the last poster might be right, about colleges only taking the new test. I think the average policy would be along the lines of: if you've taken both new and old, you must report the new, but if you've only taken the old, that's fine too (they may require the SAT II writing in that case). Either way, both will show up on your score report regardless of what you put on your application, so follow their directions and don't act like you're trying to hide something they're going to see anyway.

My Score was a 510 Verbal, 500 Math, 490 Writing on the New SAT's. It was a 540 Verbal, 500 Math on the Old SAT's. So regardless they will see both? I know that my old SAT scores my be better than the new, so will they take into consideration both scores, or throw out the old and take my lower score on the new?

lower new :(

retake it.

she probally wouldnt be posting if she has an option to retake ... unless...

i reccomend you search around the SAT forum and see what you can do to raise your score. For starters, use the blue book and work through all the lessons and take all the practice tests.

I want to apply to colleges early, that doesn't really give me the option to re-take the test. The colleges I want to apply to however, want test scores higher than mine. What would be better applying to college early with my current score, or re-taking it and hoping for a better score but applying at a later time?

What specific colleges are you considering?

ok guys...I no longer have the lowest score on the board...cheers...

Western Michigan University, University of Arizona and a few others, but those two are top! What would you recommend? Taking it over, or turning in my application. I have only taken this test once (mistake #1), so I know there is a chance for improvement.

Study and retake in October. If the colleges you want to apply to don't accept your current score, it would make sense to retake after better preparation, right? Besides, I doubt that being a couple months late for being early will kill your chances for getting into colleges.

What year of high school are you in right now? Are you about to enter senior year? If you are, then definitely retake.

Yes, I will be a senior. I was just told it is very important to apply for early acceptance. I also didn't know what would be considered more important <early acceptance="" or="" better="" scores=""> I will retake in October. Thank You for your help!</early>

Better scores are much more important. Truthfully, EA is only really important for those who want to apply to Ivies and schools of the sort.

About colleges only taking the new one: For the high school class of 2006 majority of colleges will accept either old SAT or new SAT; after that i think most of them just want the new: Check with the specific schools you're looking into

morganbrenna, you should be alright for UA. Do you have a decent GPA and coursework? My sister applied to the UA when she was a senior and heard back from them by October.

That is wonderful news! I have a 3.1-3.2 GPA, and good coursework, with excellent references and extra-curricular activities. Do you still think I have a chance? If so, then if I apply in November do you think I will be fine? Or should I apply earlier?
