selfish but please...

I was so excited after i got into rutgers I sent in all my deposits and filled out my housing. I thought there was no way I was getting into TCNJ which i just got into today.

Could someone please just remind me why Rutgers is better than TCNJ and why this was for the better anyway.

It's never too late to switch. Go to the school that you like most.

What do you plan on majoring in?

Both schools are excellent, but offer very different experiences. One is a major research university, (large) and the other a small LAC environment. It is not a matter of which one is "better" but which environment would YOU prefer?

If in doubt, visit again.

propbably anthropology but I got into TCNJ as an English major

The only thing really compelling me to go to TCNJ is the fact that its a little selective. I sort of feel like I need to prove something by going there.

There are many kids who got into TCNJ and Rutgers, including my son. So who are you proving what to?

Again, they are very different types of schools. I urge you to visit and see where you feel the "fit" is better.

And I know a lot of people who got into rutgers and not tcnj...

I didn't mean I'm outwardly trying to prove to the world how smart I am to get into TCNJ but there is this interal drive to go the more selective school (and I know this isn't deciding between rutgers and princeton) just because its more selective.

I'll probably visit both the schools again and I really appreciate the advice.

Did you receive some information on an open house for both schools?

I would try to attend both:
The Accepted Students day for TCNJ is on Sunday March 30.
The open house for Rutgers (New Brunswick campus) is on April 12, 2008.

Both are good schools. I recently got accepted to The College of New Jersey, but sadly I have to turn them down since my heart went with Rutgers. Choose what's best for you, but don't just determine by its selectivity because it really doesn't matter in the end.

It is all about what school you feel will benefit you the best when it comes to your social life and education.

Although TCNJ is a great school, and I was accepted when I applied as a Freshman, I decided not to attend. The school is great, but there's nothing to really motivate me to go there instead of RU or some other school. RU was closer, cheaper, and at least I could take the train to NYC from NB.

Ironically, I was wondering about the same thing. I too was accepted to RU and TCNJ and am having a bit of a difficult time. I think I'll just attend the open houses to try and get a good feel for both schools. I received double the merit money for TCNJ so it would be cheaper for me to attend there, but then again, I dunno about the whole small school vibe. I guess I'll just wait and see.

TCNJ seems very hyped up. I remember going to their presentation in high school and it was all like "we're the new ivy, look at our high admissions stats, blah blah."

Plus I never really felt right with how they waitlisted my friend twice (early and regular decisions). You'd think that after having her application for six months they'd at least be able to say yes or no.

Go with what feels better. But don't go to a college just because one is supposedly more prestigious than the other.

TCNJ doesnt have quite the name recognition as rutgers...go out of state, and alot of people havent heard of it...it may be more selective, but as far as name recognition rutgers is much more noticible

You can always transfer. (:

rutgers will give you more job opportunities. it is actually surprisingly very well known. if you want to study anthropology you will be able to easily commute to nyc for any research or anything else you would neeed to do from rutgers. tcnj is nice because it's small, but a lot of people prefer that big college feeling. rutgers is like a little city full of college kids. and i think a bigger school would be a better choice esp if u wanna study anthropology. yes, tcnj is more selective but rutgers gives you more opportunities. the kids at tcnj will probably be smarter overall, but rutgers is diverse and thats good too.
