Sending AP/IB Scores

Should I pay to have my AP/IB scores be sent to top-tier colleges? Or is self-reporting them on the Common App enough?

Bottom line: Does not submitting AP/IB scores hurt admissions chances at top tier colleges?

I’m guessing that if it really made a difference, they would require you to send the score. Schools just want you to self report. Note: If you self report wrong, that would be reason to withdraw an offer of admissions. That is enough incentive to keep you honest. Except maybe for Harvard. I hear most people do not take advantage of the credits for Harvard. So, if you never send your AP scores, they would never know.

Self-reporting with few exceptions is fine. Many do not use AP scores for admission and the others may give them some consideration but nothing equivalent to the importance of SAT and SAT II scores. The exception I am aware of is NYU and there are possibly a few others like it. NYU actually accepts three AP scores in lieu of any SAT, SAT II or ACT scores and thus you can send three official AP scores as the tests to be relied upon for admission.

I think they’re on your transcript.
