Hey, guys! So, I really need your help.

I found out I was deferred to Tech a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm frantically changing around my second semester schedule to make sure I look competitive enough to stand a chance in the regular decision round. I've decided to take AP Lit, AP Calc, AP Psychology, and Spanish V, which is an honors class.

I'm debating on whether or not I should switch from Spanish to AP Statistics. I do enjoy Spanish, and math is not my strong point (I'm majoring in business), but if switching to AP Stat would increase my chances of getting into Tech, I'm willing to do it.

What do you guys think? Will my acceptance ultimately come down to whether I take Honors Spanish or AP Stat? What should I do?

Thanks!

What are your stat’s. GPA,SAT/ACT scores and how many other AP classes have you taken?
what were your scores on those AP test’s?
The reason I’m asking is I’m not sure if AP statistics actually looks better. They do want AP’s however they don’t give college credit for AP statistics at GT. So I’m not sure if that is a worthwhile move.

My weighted GPA is 4.5, unweighted is 3.75.

SAT was 2140 (650 math, 720 critical reading, 770 writing), and my ACT composite was 31.

I’ve taken six APs up to this point, so I would end up with either 9 or 10 after this last semester. My AP scores weren’t too great (two 5’s, two 3’s, and one 2), but I was under the impression that Tech doesn’t really look at those.

I was told that the main reason I was deferred was because of a C I made in math my junior year (ack, I know), but I’ve made all A’s since then. I was thinking that maybe taking AP Stat and doing well in it would make up for that C? I’m not entirely sure.

Who told you that was the main reason? Was it someone who actually knows or just a guess? I wouldn’t think adding stat’s would make a difference since you already have so many AP’s anyway. Plus they aren’t going to be able to tell how you did before they make the decision anyway and AP classes aren’t easy . You might run the risk of it being too much work. Of course that’s just my opinion.

I called the Tech admissions office, and the admissions counselor told me that C was the problem and that everything else was fine. I don’t really know what to do with that since the C is done and there’s nothing I can do to change it.

And you’re probably right. I wouldn’t want to spread myself too thin. I hope they won’t base my admission decision on ONE class.

Thanks for all your help!
