September 2010 ACT English Discussion

okay so colon is correct?
i’m freaking out b/c i think i bombed science one more right in any section can only help!

WHAT. How would I miss that?

^^ The “read newspapers, but not Shakespeare” I think I put “newspaper but not” and then changed it to “no change.” I think I should have left it…

I put “one should lock one’s bike” in order to avoid conversational tone with “you.” I believe that “riders should lock their bike” is wrong because, if “riders” is the owner of “bike,” it would have to be “bikes” as “riders” do not share a “bike” (singular). Did it really say “you” later in the sentence? Dang!

-1 for sure, possibly -2, depending on the bike question.

What question was the Moreover question?
For the As a result question, are you guys talking about eh comet question that said it got duller>?

yes UVA “;as a result” seemed to insinuate that the dulling colors caused the comet to get further away

thus, i put the colon

^^ Yeah, it said “you” later in the sentence.

EVERYONE HOLD IT! Was the colon/semicolon question an EXCEPT question or not? I am questioning my sanity.

Colon was correct, ;as a result was the correct answer. IIRC.

I don’t know anything about a colon, but I do know that “as a result” was the awnser

I haven’t read any of this thread, but are there any yet-undecided questions that I can help with?

Darkdwarf-- you just said that both answers were correct lol read your post again.

^ Apparently it was an except question. He was saying that the former was grammatically correct. Was it an “except” question or not?

yes silver. Go to the reading thread.

i am SO confused. the colon answer and “;as a result” are two totally different answers. which is the right answer?

why is it ;as a result if that’s the correct answer? did it not insinuate the wrong relationship between the comet and the dull coloring??

^ People are saying that the question asked “All are acceptable EXCEPT”

also was it an except question??? i REALLY don’t think it was. but i might have been…

I really didn’t think so. I remember the other answers being incorrect as well.

JDE, how would we both miss this EXCEPT??? fahdkjfhsdk

i’m so mad.

I don’t remember much anymore. I don’t know. Whatever…it doesn’t matter if we remember it…at this point, we are likely to have constructive memories that fit our own answers. It’s biased. let it go. You’ll find out in 3 weeks

No, I swear I remember the other answers being grammatically incorrect :p. Oh welllllllll. This ACT test is stressful cause it’s my last one.

^oh i understand. In that case, the question had the word “except” .
