Just got a text from the daughter she says “I’m fine, I have to get used to rejections. It’s my career. It just wasn’t meant to be” I need to take a lesson from her….

@bisouu So sorry to hear. But you can never use a school as a test. My friend just got into Ithaca today after being rejected from all of her prescreens and all the rest of her auditions. Ithaca was her top choice and a reach from the beginning and she got rejected everywhere but there. So you really never know! :)

Bisouu, your daughter has some very good acceptances already and undoubtedly will have more. Be strong and hang in there!

Jkellynh17, it’s nice to encounter another Rob McClure fan. Rob was already doing pretty well before “Chaplin.” I first saw him when he played Mozart in “Amadeus” at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia a few years ago. He was so, so good in it!

Here’s the silver lining….now that we have our first rejection I am not eager to hear back from any of the others…the agonizing wait has been replaced with fear of hearing from anyone now. No more checking portals, or mailboxes or answering every single phone call…

D got accepted to Pace’s BFA in Film, Television and VoiceOver today.

Bisouu, I am so sorry to hear about Montclair. D was rejected from Rider and that was her very first artistic answer. She started off knocked down, but we are still standing! We shall wait together for the next wave of answers.

Rob is a very talented actor but he’s been performing for many years, on Broadway, off-Broadway, Papermill, Walnut St. Theatre, MUNY, national tours,so I wouldn’t say that he got the role completely out of the blue! For anyone in NY, there will be a great night of music, including Rob, at 54 Below on April 7th, songs from Jason Robert Brown’s new musical Honeymoon in Vegas, which is likely to transfer to Broadway later this year.

bisouu, I agree with the others that you cannot/should not use one school’s decision as any sort of barometer. You simply cannot predict an outcome based on what transpires at the audition. Positive thoughts!

Annaliese’smom - yes, I’m sorry; I didn’t meant to say Montclair isn’t a good acting program; just that the emphasis seems to be more MT and maybe behind closed doors they decided Bisouu’s D isn’t the right fit for that. Your D will get good training there and being close to NYC is great too!
Bisouu when did you expect to hear from U Arts? She already auditioned, right?

I’ve heard GREAT things about Montclair’s BFA acting program from my son’s acting coach. The MT and Theater programs are completely separate, maybe that’s why the MT mom didn’t say much about it. :)

alwaysamom, I was just going to say the same thing about Rob McClure. (I agree NJ TheatreMom–he was brilliant in Amadeus). He started at PaperMill Playhouse as a teen and went to their conservatory, then landed Carousel directly from there. He has been acting for quite a while and is not out of the blue (although thanks Jkellynj17 for the link!). He is also a really good example of how it’s unclear whether a particular college can claim singlehanded ‘credit’ for an actor (he didn’t graduate from Montclair, although I’m sure he got excellent training).

bisouu, sorry about the news about Montclair, but as everyone says, it is by no means a barometer of anything. No school is. I absolutely love your D’s reaction. That’s the fighting spirit! :-)

We are waiting on word as well from Pace on my D’s Acting BFA app so it’s interesting that people are starting to get calls. When we were at Pace last weekend for my D’s callbacks, I thought the admissions director said acceptances (and rejections) would go out via letter.

Yes, we were expecting a letter as well. I’ve heard of MT and film, TV, and screen getting calls today but perhaps the Acting BFA is going to come by mail.

Came home with pizza, chocolate and macaroni and cheese (comfort foods) and my daughter said what is this for…I told her I thought she might need a bit of some comfort. She said no need…on to the next. She then read me a quote she has pinned on Pinterest…I thought I would share it here

Rejection is neither an indication of value or talent. Remember that. If you believe in what you have to offer, then don’t stop offering it simply because some of those you offer it to reject it. Many people are simply not very good at recognizing talent or value. It doesn’t mean you won’t eventually find an audience that will.
