Does anyone know whether Shipman nominations have been completed?

I recall that they had been sent out by this time last year, but I don't know for certain this year.

My suggestion is to email the LSA Scholarship Office and ask: lsascholarship@umich.edu

I think the LSA scholarship letters which can be 5,000 - 20,000 per year have been sent.
Don't know about Shipman though.

Not completed. Quite a few letters have been sent out though. If you have any specific questions, send me a pm.

Can anyone confirm this?

The website says:
Prospective nominees must be admitted to the University of Michigan no later than January 15. Recipients will be notified by March 30. (http://www.umich.edu/~shipsoc/)

Also:
Shipman Scholars and semifinalists will be notified by mail in late March.
The Shipman weekend will be held March 29-31, 2008.

I just received a Shipman semifinalist/nominee notification letter in the mail today, so apparently the selection process has yet to be completed. Good luck to all who are nominated, and I look forward to meeting you in March!

Congratulations Lobgent.

Is Shipman only for LSA?

No, for any undergraduate student at UM.

Hey lobgent, see you there!

Hey, I just got a $40,000 scholarship for four years. Anyone else get this letter?

Ducktape - yep, got that too. Mine was for 80K but I'm assuming the letter had the same basic format...

Consider it confirmed.

Whether you are in-state or out-of-state comes into play in a material way in the amount of the award. Congratulations to you both, it's a great achievement!

ps Ducktape, if you are headed to MIT I hope you tell the UMich folks quick so that money might be made available to someone else.

Well, this may change things. I haven't matriculated at MIT yet (we don't do so until April), so this adds a whole new dimension to the decision making. I will definitely let them know as soon as I decide- one of my close friends is someone who's really banking on good financial aid from Michigan in order to attend.

Ducktape, my son received that one too. We are so thankful.

damn, it seems like most people have been nominated.
I was really hoping for that one...

Have all the Shipman nominees been notified? Have all the LSA scholarship notices been sent?

^tetrahedr0n?

I sent in a polite decline today - I suppose a second round of scholarship offers will be going out at some point to utilize money left over from scenarios similar to mine?
