Shipping

What is the best method of sending stuff to northeastern from the west coast? and do we just send it to our dorm?

if you go onto myneu you should find your on campus mailbox information under the self service tab, although im not sure when it becomes available.

This might be something you should email northeastern about. Try emailing housing@neu.edu

did you ever find out??

They told me to contact the ResMail office

I’m wondering how secure it is sending packages. So far I’ve figured it would not be secure enough for sending a good musical instrument (tenor sax, too large for carry-on).

Colorado_Mom, do you have any family or friends you could ship it to?

I’ve gotten a computer, monitor, tv, and other expensive things delivered through resmail without a problem. It’s not like Fort Knox, but the people working are honest and I’ve never heard of an issue ever.

Resmail itself is a very nice place. I also have never heard of an issue. Once your packages arrive, they sit on shelves on their own, so they aren’t crushed under a bunch of stuff or anything. I would be more worried about the actual shipping process of doing something like an instrument (having it be bounced around and thrown around by mail people) rather than what happens to it once it gets to Resmail. Plus most post offices will send your packages back within 10 days if you don’t pick them up, whereas Resmail keeps them for 30.

My main concern with Resmnail would be that there so many packages arriving at the start of school that they may need to go to an alternate/overflow method (I picture a sea of boxes in the hall, but maybe that does not happen). Yes, I do worry about the mailing process too, but we could bundle the instrument case in bedding.

"Colorado_Mom, do you have any family or friends you could ship it to? " - Yes, we do have family on Cape Cod. Considering that method. Just not really comfortable having the box sit out on the front stoop. We may find a way that requires signature or pickup

I have never had a problem with resmail. I think they have plenty of space for packages. They have a huge mailroom with lots of space, and an additional large mailroom on Columbus Ave. I have never heard of anyone having problems with them, and i don’t think its anything to worry about.

I would agree that maybe the only thing to worry about would be the actual process of the instrument being mailed.

From my experience, resmail is very well organized, and they would not lose or damage any package.

Thanks so much for the resmail feedback. Very helpful!

Does resmail work only for US Mail? Or UPS too?

Yup, Any package that can’t fit in your small mail box in your dorm will go to resmail, including FedEx, UPS, etc…

so are we allowed to send packages to ourselves so we can get them when we get there?

Yep. Resmail will keep them for 30 days.

mmk cool :)

Does resmail notify you when you receive a package or do you have to just check with them if you’re expecting one?

They notify you by email and they place a postcard in your mailbox telling you that you have a package to be picked up. They’ll also send you second and third notifications if you forget to pick it up.

I just posted a link to the resmail FAQ in another thread, but one thing to be careful about when shipping packages is to make sure that the package is addressed correctly:

As for shipping, I would be thankful if some of you could help me out here. In a week I’m coming to Boston from Poland and in a day or two I’ll order a laptop and a phone. I want them to be delivered to Northeastern. Some days ago I received my mailing information, however I am not entirely sure how to enter them properly enter them online.

For example, this is what appeared on Apple website:

Shipping contact

First Name Last Name
Area Code Primary Phone
E-mail address (optional)

Shipping Address

School, College (optional)
Street Address
Apt, Suite, Bldg. (optional)
ZIP code

This is information I received from Northeastern:

Robert XYZ

1234

1155 Tremont Street
Roxbury Crossing, MA 02120

Now, what do I do with it? Where to enter # 1234? Or is it only relevant when I get some regular letters, not larger packages? What about Roxbury Crossing, MA? Why not Boston? What is Roxbury Crossing? I would appreciate help from fellow Huskies.

If you live in IV or Dav or other buildings down there, your address isn’t Boston, it’s Roxbury. Most of campus is in the 02115 (Boston) zip code, but once you pass Ruggles it changes. The #1234 is the ‘Apt, Suit, Building’ thing.

DO NOT put “Northeastern University” in the college spot. It completely messes up how they handle the mail and you’ll get a big lecture from the resmail people when they finally get it to you. Just type in the address as if you’re living in an apartment off campus with a street address and an apartment number, but you won’t actually pick it up at your dorm.
